grahamparker
Open unless your local council visit's and says you cannot. Ours are more than happy for us to stay open but we are the main key and lock supplier to many industries and the NHS.
OS Keys
Same as above were are going to stay open but with only with a few staff to keep everyone safe as possible as we supply scottish nhs, police force and most councils so in scotland we fall into the essential category. All the best for next year everyone Keep safe & stay strong & have happy New Year Regards Steven OS Keys

exp121260
Well ,my council said to me that we are classed as essential retail, can open and not entitled to Council help/grants. I open the shop but I know from previous lock downs that wouldn't be many people around the town and only few customers a day ! More or less just a fight to survive for now kobblers

ironplanet uk900
You are allowed to open, its nothing to do with the council (unless your reliant on a indoor market) government guidelines say you can open.

I think what they are saying is you only get financial help from local councils if you are forced to close, but as they can stay they won't get any help and business/footfall is very low so taking no money. Lose - lose situation!!
k4mrc
talking to otheres in this trade, there are NOT OPENING as they think they might get 4K grant.

Lee
I’ve closed this week because I broke my shoulder Christmas Eve, but otherwise I’d be open. It’s a long term game. Every customer who comes to your door, then goes somewhere else because you wasn’t there is potentially lost for life. I plan on opening as soon as I can reach the top door lock again! x minit uk and kirkybob 1
Mick Friend
Oh common Lee you had to get the kid in the next shop to open the top lock anyway hope the pain is easing and you getting better, Is the wall Ok I did mean to ask and what about the bike? exp121260
Unless you legally required to close , you can stay open and there is a possibility that you wouldn't be eligible the 4k Grant ! However, there are differences between local Councils. I know some shops closed last Lockdown but they didn't get the grant but closed shops in the neibouring council in the same trade received it. Ian platt
We’ve just reopened reduced hours and it is quiet but worth opening we’re told not eligible for any grant this time
Michael
There is a grant for shops that have stayed open but have reduced trade. Check on your local council website.
exp121260
Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) The government has provided local authorities with additional funding to help businesses which, while not legally forced to close, are nonetheless severely impacted by the restrictions put in place to control the spread of Covid-19 (e.g. businesses which supply the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors, or businesses in the events sector) and businesses outside the business rates system, which are legally required to close. Grant funding is available for eligible Micro and Small businesses who were trading on the 4 November 2020 in Erewash and have seen a reduction in turnover of 20% or more. Businesses that are eligible for the scheme will be entitled to receive a one off grant payment for the 28 days of the national restrictions from 5 November 2020 to 2 December 2020. Eligible business trading on 4 January 2021 who have seen a reduction in turnover of 20% or more can also apply for a grant covering the 42 days of the national lockdown period from 5 January 2021 to 15 February 2021. Jontheshoe
Spoke to the council today after submitting my grant application 2 1/2 weeks ago , after a short wait they found my application & then said it should be assessed next week . I asked why it was taking such a long time & the reply !!!!! Due to Covid restrictions our staff are mainly working from home & the decision on grants is complicated .I asked if they realised they were messing around with people’s livelihoods & causing a lot of stress . Was told they understood & were working as fast as they could . Don’t think she liked it when I mentioned she was a public employee & would get paid at the end of the month come what may ,unlike a lot of small businessmen. Not holding my breath , roll on April

Happy Dude
Just logged in, first time this year. Up here in Edinburgh I have been closed since xmas eve, I applied for the grants for shop owners through the city of Edinburgh council back in February. I got an initial payment of £6k followed up the same day with a further £2k, I also got another £2k in March and think I'll get the same as we are locked down until 26th April, I'm unsure if there will be any further payments. Along with my HMRC grants I feel I have been very well looked after... Mike at Vauxhall
windycity
Happy dude you have been well looked after in Scotland. It’s seems like in the south we have received quite a bit less. Anyone based in Wales? How do your grants received compare?
