keithm
Hi All Just wondered what your thoughts were with regards to Shoe repairs and the corona Virus. Given that china makes 85% of the worlds footwear and it's pretty much on lock down, will there be a shortage on NEW pairs and what effect that might have your business? grahamparker
Doubt it, no point worrying about WHAT MIGHT happen and just DEAL with problems as they arise. Within 6 months it will probably have run it's course never to be mentioned again. Just like all the others Sars, Swine flu and so on.

wellsy9
I've seen an increase in shoe repairs the last month or two but that is down to the nearest competitor closing and not corona virus.
keithm
I think it's too early to see an increase due to the Virus, however, across the next 6 months or so, as the Virus takes a hold and peoples habits change, I think our trade may benefit kobblers

The rent, rates, taxes will still have to be paid.
Michael
Surely they will have to put a freeze on rents, mortgages etc.? Although with no money coming in, still other bills to be paid. It's gonna be a long way back from this, lots of our businesses won't survive unfortunately. Going to check my shop insurance policy but would imagine there will be nothing there for me!! keithm

Count Muppet
Pods will be among the first to close. Colleagues are being sent to keep as many shops open as possible, then close the quieter shops as people get ill

High rent per square foot, but not rateable so no Small Business Rate Relief so I guess that means zero help for us! Still ticking along at the moment though. We do have some loyal customers and right on the edge of an industrial estate so they still use us.
Perplexus
I guess that if people are not out and about, then the logical result will be less wear and tear on footwear, which would negate the necessity to have shoes repaired.

Lee
I’ve been looking at Italy and noticed tonight that whilst shops have been ordered to close, you can still order online. so my thinking is presumably Vans are still running deliveries so if the UK was to follow suit, I may be able to sell my services online and offer a door step collection and delivery and work either from home or behind closed doors? keithm

I was thinking along the same lines, but I wonder what people will need given they are not going anywhere? Will they be bothered about shoe repairs, keys, car keys if not doing anything and short of cash. Not dismissing it, it is definitely a consideration. I would be interested in hearing opinions on it.
