Heard this idea in passing on the radio today, talking about how raising VAT and lowering business rates an equivalent amount will 'save the high street'.

No idea how they figure that one out? Many of us will be beneficiaries of small business rates relief, so this plan will be a kick in the balls with no upside. 
If the idea is to level the playing field for brick and mortar and large online retailers, invent a new tax for them, rather than just tweaking the way we operate.

the tories aim to raise it to £10.50 by 2024, so it's going up regardless

the difference with Labour's pledge is that they want to put in place this higher rate for even teenagers - which I agree could be problematic. Imo, if there is going to be separate rates of pay depending on age, let us also hire pensioners at a discounted rate

I don’t think minimum wage should be age related. If you can do the job as well as someone else it shouldn’t matter if you’re 16 or 70

I think the original idea was  the younger staff being paid less was to encorage companies to take on trainees, remember when aprentices finished training at 21. Or is it me thats old.

To stop typing in italics, hold down Ctrl and I, simultaneously - you can do the same to turn it on:

Other shortcuts: 

Ctrl+B  = bold

Ctrl+U = underline

Ctrl+P = print

Ctrl+S = save as

id rather my 21 year old daughter got a vote than my 92 year old mum

I like to get my facts from several sources, then cross check and research them. Like the Brexit bus, a quick check, yes it's  misleading. But as remainers say, " No, it's not £350 million a week, it's only £200 million!" 

Only. Bloody hell.

I'm badgering my two university students daughters to vote, even though they will definitely vote the exact opposite to me. The sad truth is, at least one of them just won't  bother.
