  1. If you want my advice (I'm not saying i'm right but i've done hundreds of brass signs) use the Mastegrave paint. Before you mount it on the wood simply pour a small amount onto the plaque and move it around with a rubber scraper into all the gaps, wipe of as much excess as possible with the scraper. then leave it to dry (over-night ideally). With the thinners wipe of all the excess, i put the round pet tag into a cloth and dip that into thinners, rub gently over excess. This should leave the black paint in the engraved areas. A simple polish at the end should have the plaque finished. Hope that all makes sense. Any problems feel free to inbox me and i'll try and explain better.

    New product range.

I had a unit in an indoor market for some years and next door was a Mobile Phone man. I did notice although his stall was full of cases on show he actualy sold very very few, he said they where displayed only to let people know he dealt with mobile phones, and in fact with regard to cases the phone models changed so fast he got them in to order. his main source of income was repairs, mainly screen replacement and sale of chargers and leads. His main supplier ( a wholesale phone company) also provided a service of repairing any thing he couldnt do. hope this info is helpfull . Bob

  4. A few months ago, inspired by a thread, I started keeping a book of every item a customer wanted, but I didn't stock. Some of them were just ridiculous, some were quite easy to tag on to an order( eg ferrules, unusual colours of laces). One range of items repeatedly cropped up. Mobile phone accessories. Previously I'd not been interested, my only supplier being a good cash and carry, but I don't think reliable for electronics. So I'm trying these people. https://www.core-retail.com Anyone else tried a similar range ?

  5. yes i agree.. syringe method is good for porous surfaces like tile, wood etc where cleaning after paint has dried becomes difficult. its not needed on brass, just roughly pour some paint on spread it to as near the engraved area as possible and clean afterwards

    Quiet today

Won’t make any difference. I have 3 new Timo’s opened around me. Turnover still went up each year. Two of them are within easy walking distance. Not to mention the automatic key cutting machine right opposite. With Timo’s nearby you can put your prices up too! :)

So how often do you sharpen your cutters UK? (aimed at uk cos he does a lot of cutting) Do you have a sharpener? what one do you have? Pondering purchasing sharpener!

To be honest Hugh I'm not sure what substance the wheel is made of, I can't recall as I've only ordered one. they last a long time though. It wouldn't grind Diamond bits, but it does grind Tungsten cutters, so yes it would sharpen tungsten drill bits, but you would need the right sized colet for each drill bit. And yes you can alter the angle.

    Customers own logo.

I have been reading some other threads and on the question of price and profit I charge £60 artwork charge and then £8/10 per item, The artwork origination fee is fairly standard in the print/sign/embrodery game, Once they have there image on the computer we keep the file for them and they can come back any time and only pay the engraving. We get the £60 because most of the other shops in the 20mile radius stuggle to work out how to vector the original, Profit is not a dirty word

  13. Never seen this done but one thought crossed my inquisitive mind!!! They (the blind people) have to feel the sign to know what it says! OK with that but,...................................................... how do they know where the bloody sign is? Surely they dont go feeling all over the walls of each building. Is this just political correctness or are they actually used?

  14. Do you charge extra for the Braille beads? I charged £60 for the sign above. It was 12" x 8"
