Is anybody open for key cutting?

Only 2 members of staff are in for the key department  and another 2 for business supplies , rest like myself have been placed on  furloughed. however been told we have been kept busy with keys and locks for hospitals in Scotland.

My father works for national health division in Scotland and they were expecting best case scenario the end of June for lockdown to be eased. This would come into line  with china 13 week lock down as well. Like he says you don't jump from the top of the slide, you slide down it to the bottom to get off.

***Breaking news is that furlough is extended until October, this will also cater for supporting return to work on a part time basis which it hadn't

Sunak extends furlough job retention scheme until end of October

Sunak says the government believes in the dignity of work.

It is doing all it can to protect people who cannot work.

He says he can announce the next stage of the job retention scheme, the furlough scheme. He says 7.5m jobs have been supported, and almost 1m businesses helped.

He says the scheme will be extended for four months, until the end of October. (It has been due to end at the end of June.)

There will be no changes until the end of July.

And in August, September and October will will continue with more flexibility.

He says employers will be able to bring workers back part-time. (At the moment the scheme only subsidises workers who are not working at all.)

He says the government will require employers to make a contribution.

But he says employees will continue to get the same support they do now - 80% of wages.

Have you had confirmation of the loan but not received the money? That's where we are at the moment

The Bounce Back Loan Scheme launched today, you can borrow up to £50,000 (based on maximum amount to 25% of turnover) no interest or payments first 12 months then a fixed 2.5% interest rate 100% backed by government making access easier for small businesses and no early repayment fees so in theory an excellent buffer zone for the first year or more

My claim is in as of a few days ago it will be a nice way of paying off some debts cheaply, that plus the self employed grant and the 10k business rates relief I cant believe how much they have stepped up to the mark (financially at least)

In case you missed the update from the chancellor today there's a couple of bits of news from the BBC:

Here's what he told us:

Employers will be asked to pay a contribution to the furlough wage scheme. In August they will be asked to pay national insurance and pensions contributions. In September, they will be expected to pay 10% of wages, and in October 20%, as the government contribution tapers off. The furlough wage cap will also decrease each month. The scheme will then close
From July, a "flexible" furlough will be introduced, to allow businesses to bring staff back part-time

MORE IMPORTANTLY FOR A LOT OF SMALL BUSINESSES

The self-employment scheme will be extended, with people receiving another three-month grant, based on 70% of their previous earnings, in August. The cap on the grant will also be lowered.

For those with no handout so far -

Small businesses hoping to receive the £10,000 government grant in a second wave of funding have to apply via a website portal with their local council.

The government announced in May that it would be giving local authorities a further £617m to hand out to small businesses that missed out on the first wave of grants – but it would be up to the councils how it was distributed.

Firms that paid their rates via their landlord in a bundled payment with their rent missed out on the first grant, which saw some businesses handed as much as £25,000.

Local authorities have been told by the government they can distribute the cash as they see fit and it is likely the applications will now be assessed on a case-by-case basis, delaying the funding further.

Many have launched, or are in the process of launching, web portals where businesses will now have to apply for the grants. The original funds were automatically paid out to businesses, funnelling the much-needed cash into firms quickly.

Local authorities were given guidance in May by the Department for Business, Energy, Innovation & Skills (BEIS) on how to distribute the much-needed cash.

Local councils had been waiting to receive details of how they should distribute the funds to those businesses who missed out before handing it out which they now have so if you did miss out check your local council website for application guidelines and details

With today being the first day in England where masks are compulsory for customers in shops just a reminder that you or your staff do not have to if that's your choice. As most repairers are behind counters with screens anyway it shouldn't be much of an issue. Customers should by law be wearing them but will you turn them away if they don't? I think it's for the legal system to take care of enforcing the rules and individual shops must weigh up their options, yes you can refuse entry but what benefit is there to you to do this? Even large supermarkets will not enforce this rule which could easily put their staff at risk of confrontation. Personally whatever your beliefs of masks is I think it is a courtesy to other people to wear them in a confined space and no different to when I go abroad and visit a museum or a mosque and they have a dress code, it is their custom and I respect that.

The case has been heard with a ruling expected in about a month - https://www.insurancejournal.com/news/international/2020/08/04/577851.htm

I'd put money that they wont be an insurer that will pay out - all under the carpet if they do pay as would make all the insurers bankrupt. Imagine paying us all loss of income or profits for the 12 weeks or so. 100 billion our gov have had to loan.

A very good read on where we are and actually how well the UK is doing at the moment, borne out by the fact st John Ambulance have scaled down operations for now but way back in March when this started the hospitals said they expect a big wave in October and are prepared for this lets just hope it's money spent for no reason.
