Phone repairs

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys I know this has been asked a few times.

Who does Phone repairs, Is it a profitable one.

Buisness is quite the last 2 moths and probably will be up until march.

I am a mobile locksmith doing specilising in car keys.

But ive been looking at a few ideas to keep the kitty topped up.

The fear i have of phone repairs though is customers coming back saying you broke such and such, Our problems occurring while doing the repair. Is it somthing i could do while at home on the evenings.

Anybody any insight our ideas

Thanks

I don't repair phones as there is 3 shops around me competing for business.

All offer a 1 hour service with hardly any profit as thy're cutting each others throats.

Look who else around you is offering this service and see if you can compete with their offering, but don't end up doin it for nothing, one cocked up Iphone could cost you £££'s

i tried it myself, found i wasn't really making enough on it so stopped doing them, can be a bit fiddly, and a lot of folk want just the glass repaired instead of a full lcd, tbh i wouldn't bother doing it at night, i think if you aren't shop based then you aren't going to get a lot of trade, if any

I smashed the screen in my iPhone 5 just before Christmas, so I decided to buy a new screen (and battery to fit while I had it open).

Took me an entire evening to do at home (3-4 hours), closely following the youtube tutorial. Most of the (many) screws were so tiny it was beyond belief.

Unless you are very skilled in these sorts of fine electronic jobs, my advice is to stay well clear.

Having done it once, I have no real desire to do it again, especially on a customer's phone - I had the attitude with mine that that it was broken, so I couldn't make it much worse if I cocked it up!

The thought of trying to mend somebody else's phone fills me with dread - especially if they have perhaps tried first, failed & come to me as the 'expert' to sort out their mess.

Too many potential things to go wrong, too expensive an item to be risking fiddling with, too much time taken up doing the job - and that's without customers coming in & interrupting as you try to get on with it!

Sorry to get back to the point...

Just read this on the bbc website and another reason why phone repairs might not be such a great idea.

Surely that has to be illegal? Imagine you have a nice Mercedes car out of warranty, someone (not Mercedes dealer) changes a tail light for you and the car is written off? Better still, you copy a chipped car key, the car dies when you go to start it and can't be repaired again?
