Sorry Keith but I really don't agree, maybe there are materials that would be helped by using a press but that doesn't mean a press is necessary, especially if you know what you're doing with modern materials which I very much do :)

I've not found any material that I couldn't repair without a press in 22 yrs and the repair of well over 150,000 pairs of shoes - that's more than enough justification for not needing one for me 8)

Rick.

i think you definitley need a press. i'd be lost without my tiger/power type one, ascap do you do lots of mens leather soles? no, but mens work is made alot easier with a press. ladies sole don't need one.

anyway how you finding those durosoles now you found out where to get them.

What NO press :lol:

thats like not having a blake :-{{{

carry on!

Do you think we could find some room under micks desk?

Thanks for the offer Pete, but I don't need to hide. The vast majority know I'm right :lol: :lol: I've seen only Rick against a press as an essential item for repairs :wink: But that's his choice and his opinion, mine differs, that's all there is to it!

Just read this thread for the first time :D

I'm afraid your all wrong, except Rick & Elfy.. although a press is a handy bit of kit, it is by no means a necessity, I have a press in both my shops and I can honestly say I haven't used mine in at least 12 months. And I can also say I NEVER EVER get repairs back that have come adrift. Contact adheisive sticks on contact and it doesn't need half a ton of pressure. proper preparation, correct adhiesive and good timing is all thats needed.

The fact you don't get repairs back that come adrift doesn't mean they don't come adrift. I get stuff repaired by my oppo's that come adrift and customers don't want to take them back. They come to me and i do them properly. And I do have a press............But I could manage without one because thats how I learnt my trade. It just makes life easier. And I admire Rick & Elfie for sticking to the old ways.

My work never comes adrift, thats for sure. your mocasin repairs are definatley crap if you don't blake em on, because there is no other way of securing a proper mocasin shoe without stitching.... Or are you one of these who says.. "we never get any mocasins in" cus that B*llocks aswell. :D

Sorry, don't get it. Rlj gets a slagging for not using a blake to complete the repair on a leather sole to a leather moccasin, which should stick really well if pressed. Yet you don't need a press to stick plastic, what's the difference? Apart from the look of the mocc that has been stitched!

It's all personal preference, but I would not be without a press nowadays, it's more than just pressing on the material. I can do something else while the shoe is under the press, plus, I think it's quicker than hammering and quieter :D

You have to be in the "Circle" to get that one Keith. EVERY member should spend more time getting to know each other in the chat room! :lol:
