earlsdoncobbler
hay just a thought i am at home doing a bit of work for my shop and listening to music on the PC do i need a licence for that
Iain
The licence is intended only for when the general public can hear the music being played. If the shop is locked then you have nothing to worry about. They do have folk who may visit to check if the music can be heard so be careful. We have the advantage of music being played within the market hall. I'm hoping they'll ring, hear the music in the background and pay me a visit! hibsjo(SCO)
if they visit and you have no music playing you will be fine however if they visit and you are playing music they will fine you according to how you are listening. ie if its a transistor radio it wont be much(but still enough) if its through the computer and its capable of any music media OUCH expensive. I have a licence(side note here if you have a licence you can claim the tax back on all music media bought) carry on!

k4mrc
if one chucks there redio in the bin... then listens over the internet, does that still warrant a license as we pay our subs for the internet?
Michael
This is as bad as the bloody TV licence Any one of our customers can go home and switch the radio on and listen to the same thing free of charge, so why the f***ing hell do we have to pay in case they happen to walk in our shops and hear the exact same thing... It's not like we're listening to something exclusive that they can't hear anywhere else...It's public broadcasting FFS WHY DO WE HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS SHIT!!!! the dutch cobbler
It's not 'cause your British! In the Netherlands we pay also this taxes! But they make it better for the shop-owners: There is SENA: taxes for benefit of artists and producers And there is BUMA/STEMRA: taxes for benefit of composers and song writers If we play music in our own shop we have to pay two taxes!!! So I don't have music in my shop! Only when I'm doing overtime, with the door closed, I play loud music! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ And I sing myself! (Offcourse when the shop is closed!)
