Have to agree with mick on this one,as i also own an easy entrie machine but it is very underused due to the fact we will never knowingly cut any patented key using this machine and only registered keys when the security period has come to and end i.e Evva gpi sections. I myself have 5 differnet sections and would be furious if anybody tried to duplicate any of them which is why i now have my own abus pfaffenhain system with a bent profile key that cannot be duplicated in the easi entrie machine. It is why a lot of other locksmiths are also joining the abus pfaffenhain route. I don't mean any disrespect to you in any way craig but as mick said you have to take each key you cut on its own merits and if not sure if a key is patented then its your choice as to wether you cut it or not. In these difficult times you need all the income you can get but it depends on how you view the moral ground this argument enters.I am not a member of the mla although i did join the guild of keycutters a few years ago but i now a lot of members who are friends and through my own choice have adopted their thoughts on this matter. -

In reply to your question steven, the local police force arrested a known local villain on the local caravan park (thorpe park in cleethorpes) in his backpack he had a full set of mc caravan keys a set of lock picks and numerous keyblanks. As my dad had a few friends in the local police force they visited us and asked if we had supplied the blanks or had ever been asked to supply them. They then asked us not to supply anyone else unless in the trade and we have done this ever since, one lucky benefit was 6 months later we were called upon again by the police and asked if we wanted the mc keys, blanks, picks and a pair of bolt croppers they had found at his address so it seemed only fair we complied with there request. We have been the only key supplier to our local force ever since and the only work we don't do is there cell door work. -

Not sure about the legal issue of selling key blanks but we recieved a visit from the local police force over 15-20 years ago asking that we never issue keyblanks to the public and we have stuck to that ever since. The only people i will supply key blanks to are other locksmiths or keycutters. -

We have also had problems cutting this key on a silca rekord plus, but on the bravo they seem to be o.k. As we see more of these keys snapped than any other vehicle key we now try to decode the key and use our unocode as this way the key always works perectly. I have even tried copying a key cut on the unocode straight onto a copy using the rekord and it still doesn't like it but if i use the bravo no problems. As tel said i think the main problem is with the way the jaws actually clamp the key so try cutting ever so slightly deeper than normal as this is what i had to do in the past when only using our rekord plus. -
Aldridges have some stock but only in 1 finish, can't tell you which as the online ordering has shutdown for there stocktake.

Is the company hidden somewhere (porton down)? I can't see it -
Stopped buying copy cutters for my silca machines about 2 years ago as i had noticed they weren't lasting very long at all. Now i seem to be having the same problem with mortice cutters,i have 2 blade vectis machines and a silca lancer plus. The lancer is ok but the other 2 take the 750 side and face cutters and they are all crap. Has anyone managed to find a stockist supplying a hardened version of this cutter? About 8 weeks ago i fitted a new cutter and brass keys are starting to snag already,i know it all depends on how many keys the machine cuts and type but i have not had a cutter going this quickly before.

Get yourself some thin metal shims that are used when stripping a cylinder they are wafer thin and can be trimmed with a pair of scissors. http://www.thelocksmithshop.co.uk/curve ... -237-p.asp Used this site just to show what they are i buy mine from aldridges. Slide along the edge of the key while slowly moving key backwards and forwards, once its far enough in the key will come out very easily. Can take a bit of practice but i have only ever had one stuck that i have cut, but have removed loads that others have done.

Problem solved for us,Customer took vehicle to local VW dealership who re-programmed key back in and charged £35.00 which we have agreed settle by to cutting the next dozen keys for them F.O.C. Managed to get hold of Lee at silca after vehicle had been sorted and found out we could have cured the problem ourselves, there is a regenerate 42 and regenerate 45 in the options menu of the RW4 which i had never seen before. Not exactly sure how you can solve the problem with a fastcopy machine. The worst thing is i bought the rw4 circuit board for my rw3 machine from the silca factory while on a tour in 2008 which i then installed myself but never recieved the manual so i hadn't even read about the problems associated with the 42 and 45 chips. I spoke to Duncan at Hickleys yesterday about the problem and they are going to make sure that all buyers of the zedbull are aware of the problem with these 2 chips and how they can be cured. We will in future remove all car keys from a bunch when reading or copying from know on so they cannot move.

My rw4 has just scrambled a volkswagon transporter (1997) key. I read the key as normal said it was a 42 (t10) i then told customer how much it would be. Read the customers key which was attatched to a large bunch of keys which slipped and lifted the customers key about 50mm upwards and the rw4 came up with a fault reading. I then popped the key back in and tried to copy only to be told chip is know a 44. Not sure what has happened but vehicle is on its way to garage as i am typing. WOULD SUGGEST REMOVAL OF ANY TRANSPONDER KEY FROM BUNCH WHEN READING IN ANY MACHINE. I will be taking this matter up with silca in due course once i recieve the bill from the customer.

Tesco doing Shoe Repairs

Training someone to cut keys only takes a couple of days. 28 years of experience, learning and mistakes cannot be tought in a couple of days. Even though the new machines are virtually stand alone machines with very little user input they still need some sort of knowledge to operate correctly. You usually find with these machines that once the machine has been used a whill and needs calibrating it will very soon become a large dust gatherer as no one has the intelligence to repair it. When our local B & Q tried cutting keys most didn't work and as a result the staff sent the customer down to us,best form of free advertising we ever had. Needless to say the machines are now gone. -
2 key IDs

Just had the second one in with the lock (evo) ,only markings where a kitemark stamped on the end of the cylinder. The hd wms7 fitted perfectly but the cylinder was jamming even with the original key so we eventually replaced the cylinder. -

Most valet keys can be bypassed by recutting the key onto the correct blank as the valet key is usually on a different profile to the master. -
key needed...
grahamparker replied to k4mrc's topic in Key Cutting - Sponsored by What's The Damage & Locking Systems
Burg make a key very similar but you usually need a special jaw to clamp the key. Try a silca bur5,12 or 19 and taking the back side away. They use them a lot on caravans to stop a key entering the keyway as a form of added security but most can be picked open in seconds. Think they were called lock blockers. -
life time watch batteries
grahamparker replied to soles'n'eels's topic in Watch Repairs - Sponsored by Intelligent Hardware
I have a casio baby g watch i purchased in las vegas in 1990. It has been on my wrist ever since and been in several oceans around the world during my diving expeditions. It takes a lithium 3 volt battery which i have replaced about 7 times and the face of the watch is guarded so it has no scratches and still has the original strap although it is now very faded. I am not sure how much longer it can last but it is so damn comfortable to wear,my point is you can never guess at how long a watch can last and if you offer lifetime guarentees they can eventually cost a lot more than you could guess. Better to charge a reasonable price each time a customer requires a new battery. We give ours a 1 year guarentee on 1.5 volt and 2 years on 3 volt and i can only remember a couple of times when i have had to replace a battery for free. -

In the words of bart simpson "you're Damned if you do or Damned if you don't" Don't think any of us would have produced the required finish, sometimes it is just a whole lot easier to just say no. -
Try ringing Terry Crossley on 07870559908 he may be able to tell you who else shared your section, unless it is your own section then its got to be a larger order. It may be cheaper and easier to go for the uncoined and have a metal stamp made. We have a basic stamp with our name and phone number on.

I have the H49D section and have had to place my final order for these blanks last october and was told no more would be available through abus any longer (Coined) but uncoined may still be available for a short period of time.Basically i think this meant untill they have used up all the stock in germany. The Abus 5 pin system was deemed unsuitable for the current uk market after Abus and CK Tools had there fall out a couple of years ago and therefore all support for these cylinders will be coming to an end. I have always dealt with Terry Crossley of Abus UK and he is very helpfull and knowlegeable and it has been mentioned that abus may release the blanks details to silca who would then be able to produce copy keyblanks (but you may still have to order in quanteties of a 1000). As far as i am aware this ha not been done yet. Your only other way is to have the blank profiled on the easy entrie machine. There is a forum member who offers this service to other members (Think its Craig) but im sure he or someone will offer this service for you.
