Hegel key cutting - can anyone help please??

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've got a new front door from B&Q and I went to get key copies cut but nobody could help. I've visited 5 places, phoned various others, spoke to the B&Q store manager and am in the process of trying to get through the B&Q complaints procedure which looks like it will take an age. Obviously I can just change the lock but this is a brand new door and I don't see why I should have to pay additional costs for something that's a problem with the product.

I can't be the first to have this problem, B&Q are massive. But the only thing I can find on Google is a couple of links to chats on here, and no definitive answer.

Can anyone here help please? Image attached.

Thanks

Thanks. I did see this and suggested it to the last keycutter visited but he said it wouldn't work. He may have just been covering his backside though. Do you - or does anyone - know from experience that it works, as he said it wouldn't?

We stock these and would order them in if we didn't already have them, and most good key cutters would offer this service too.

Whereabouts are you? In the north of England by any chance?

If Tommy is too far away for you, just put your postcode on here. I'm sure someone local to you will reply, we are all a helpful bunch

There must be an independent key cutter close to you that is prepared to order these in. That is how I have some left, as I always order more than I need because you nearly always see obscure keys again. As a shop, we are ordering on a twice-weekly basis and more if we have a big enough order that is needed quickly, so adding extra keys is not a problem if it's going to help someone in need. If it's something special that i'm unlikely to see or use again I'll take a small deposit and text when in stock, I'd like to think most will offer a similar service.

If you want to pay me PayPal, friends and family,  I can send you the blanks and you get someone local to cut them? I have 2 in stock

Sounds like a possibility. BUT is it likely that because these keycutters don't stock the keys their equipment is not going to be able to cut these blanks? Or do standard machines like you get in somewhere like Timpsons have the facility to cut any of these kinds of keys?

Cutting from this blank will pose no difficulty to any key cutter

They are easy enough for anyone to cut, but we cannot be responsible for someone cutting them too deep. I personally would look for an independent to cut them, Any normal cylinder key cutting machine will cut them

It’s company policy that’s true

but not everyone follows company policy

those who can do the job properly do whatever they want

but you’ll struggle to find one of those ;)

You might just happen to be one of these gems :-), me thinks
