COVID-19 Information for you

Recommended Posts

I was told the other day my grant money would take up 2 weeks & I would be contacted to verify so I've been expecting a phone call or email. Checked me bank this morning & it's been paid. Probably didn't need to be verified as the council have a trade account with me so already have my bank details. So wait for June now for self employed entitlement. Good luck guys & stay safe we can do this & remember your customers you've had for years won't be able to go elsewhere because your closed

Just announced

Furlough scheme 'due to open on 20 April'

Firms should be able to apply for money to help pay furloughed staff "on or around" 20 April, Chancellor Rishi Sunak says.

"That is the working assumption", he adds, with testing of the new system currently being carried out.

There will be a gap of "several days" between applying for help and getting the cash, he says, to allow for fraud checks and the BACS payment process.

My accountants also have told me they can deal with the application for me so i do not have to do anything.

They have also said as a thank you to all the customers they have they will not be charging any extra money for any extra work they are carrying out during the current crisis.

Not many accountants will be as generous.

Update from Hmrc:

We are also updating you on an important change to the scheme relating to employee eligibility:

  • you can claim for employees that were employed as of 19 March 2020 and were on your PAYE payroll on or before that date; this means that you will have made an RTI submission notifying us of payment of that employee on or before 19 March 2020
  • employees that were employed as of 28 February 2020 and on payroll (i.e. notified to us on an RTI submission on or before 28 February) and were made redundant or stopped working for you after that, and prior to 19 March 2020, can also qualify for the scheme if you re-employ them and put them on furlough.

More information on this can be found on GOV.UK.

How to claim

As you prepare to make a claim, please note:

  • the online claim service will be launched on GOV.UK on20‌‌ April 2020 – please do not try to access it before this date as it won’t be available
  • the only way to make a claim is online – the service should be simple to use and any support you need available on GOV.UK; this will include help with calculating the amount you can claim
  • you can make the claim yourself even if you usually use an agent
  • claims will be paid within 6 working days; you should not contact us unless it is absolutely necessary – any queries should be directed to your agent, representative or our webchat service
  • we cannot answer any queries from employees – they will need to raise these with you, as their employer, directly.

Information you will need before you make a claim

In addition to the information in our previous email, you will need to have the following before 20‌‌ April 2020:

  • a Government Gateway (GG) ID and password – if you don’t already have a GG account, you can apply for one online, or by going to GOV.UK and searching for 'HMRC services: sign in or register'
  • be enrolled for PAYE online – if you aren’t registered yet, you can do so now, or by going to GOV.UK and searching for 'PAYE Online for employers'
  • the following information for each furloughed employee you will be claiming for:
  1. Name.
  2. National Insurance number.
  3. Claim period and claim amount.
  4. PAYE/employee number (optional).
  • if you have fewer than 100 furloughed staff – you will need to input information directly into the system for each employee

I've spoken to an insurance assessor with 35 years experience to look at my policy. & to appoint & act on my behalf we had good chat about this situation. In his opinion if your not covered on your policy in time compensation will probably be given. He mentioned one chap who has 3 night clubs in London his insurance has said no your not covered. He has given them until weds next week then he will sue the insurance company. This is just the tip of the iceberg the government he says will be leaning on these insurance company's so fingers crossed!

News today:

The government payment scheme for furloughed workers has been extended into June.

More than nine million workers are expected to be furloughed, or put on state-paid leave, under the government's job retention scheme.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has confirmed the wage subsidy will continue for another month.

He added it could be extended further "if necessary".

"With the extension of the coronavirus lockdown measures yesterday, it is the right decision to extend the furlough scheme for a month to the end of June to provide clarity," Sunak said.

The furlough claim site is open for business now, it's a little long winded working through it but simple to use and they promise payment within 6 days which will be interesting to see. I'm glad they've also included NI and auto enrolment pension payments but for the moment it cannot calculate the full amount if you are topping up to 100% - I have still claimed as the amount of NI will be small and want to keep cash flowing as much as I can.

@Flash you can start from early March although that doesn't make sense to me as lockdown was from 23rd March I have claimed up to end April this time then will do May in a months time - you claim each month until you stop furlough (Government have limited to end June at moment) but be careful about how much as they are tying it into NI numbers and your February PAYE return (or over a few months if pay is variable). When you claim you need all your gateway log in details, PAYE references, NI numbers, bank account details.
