GLENGRAVING
Just wondering, do any of you offer OAP or Student discounts on your services? I noticed that a shop in my town centre does, and introducing it could be a good way to raise our prices a bit without alienating the elderly customers who have been using us for years. On the other hand, it would complicate the sale process, having to check if they're entitled etc. Not sure if it'd be worth it, thoughts? MarkD
Never understood OAP discount, any discount I give is based on need and not how long they have dodged death.
Mike at Vauxhall
The problem I've always had with these discounts, is potentially an O.a.p getting jobs done for the younger members of the family, because they get a discount. That is another concern (our customer base is already fairly old), but perhaps it'll balance out with a student discount What I'd be most concerned about is that the people outwith these age brackets might feel cheated. Interested to hear any contrary opinions tho. Edited December 29, 2019 by GLENGRAVING
Count Muppet
Surprised it isn’t considered ageist these days. I would have thought most old people still identify as young people so how do you decide who should get it anyway? MarkD

A simple way would be to ask to see their free bus pass card thingy - but in Scotland that is given out at 60, which is too young for discounts

St.Am92
Oap's are a great source of advertising ,worth every penny of a discount
Flash
Did this for many years, if they come into your shop because you offer a discount, that's up to them, what they go out with is up to you...... Don't worry about the ifs and buts. If some try to take advantage by bringing relatives repairs in, that's a bonus and worth the discount. Most of your customers are probably in Gods waiting room and are worth looking after. GLENGRAVING and kobblers
GLENGRAVING
The idea of them bringing in younger relative's items isn't really a problem (the granddaughter might have went to Timpsons anyway) - but obviously it'd be nice if it worked the opposite way around to build an, er, 'longer lasting' customer-base. A "bring your grannie's watch discount" makes even less sense though :p
