Ian platt
Opened an account with ultion 2019 had to buy one of their packages to start asked the question would I be able to order blanks in the future told yes no problem tried to order 3 cylinders and 100 blanks and told 3 cylinders didn’t qualify me for 100 blanks can’t imagine this being acceptable in any other industry sell you a product then restrict you making any profit from it and expecting you to send the end user to them for keys Can’t get my head around it ciawest
grahamparker
Suprised you have not read about this before. There have been many reports about this from the MLA forums to Social Media and on here. Brisant "Locks for locksmiths" tag has well and truly been abandoned. ciawest, almeriasecure, kirkybob and 2 others

Auto Key Wizard
I would be glad if it happens Brisant seem to be shafting the industry and the end user alike, with their monopoly on supply and cost grahamparker and ciawest

I'm not aware of another but my comment was aimed at copy xmw blanks being available. I'm not happy with being drip feed blanks but it means that my none tax/insurance paying completion over the field and in local carparks aren't able to supply these keys. Every cloud........ grahamparker
We where never sold/or told we would be drip fed key blanks once investing into a what was a new locking system on the market. We are professional key cutters, it's what we do and what we are proud to be so. It's like selling your customer a restricted master key system but then saying to them they can only have a few keys cut as they no longer buy any more locks from you. WHY ??. The funny thing is that i was warned that this would happen back in 2015 by several influential (trade) people i should have listened to more. kirkybob
I wonder if the plan is to force key cutters/ locksmitgs to buy more locks than they need and then drive retail sales as we try to get rid of the locks so we can get more blanks. My next thought is if this works for them, how many other lock manufactures will follow suit. But then Iam just a cynical old fart.
Growster
I am not defending this, but the supply restriction has kept the cost of these keys very high. Compare them to the aggro/revenue relationship of a Yale Superior key. A pain to make, on a £1K clamp, and then they sell for a fiver. ponsaloti
keyman
A fiver? Really? Are we talking about the same Superior? (one track and two rows of dimples?) Charging £15 a pop and getting no complaints here. Same for Avocet Pioneer, Cisa Astral, Ultion U11 and U12, Gatemate, etc... gavin
grahamparker
Same as keyman from me as well, £15.00 each to the public and no complaints. gavin and Bren
Growster
Shhush, this is a public forum, I shouldn't have started. OK, £8 then.
AccessLeeds
I think the big crux of the problem is they're selling semi-restricted keys to people who haven't asked for them. Ultion locks are now going in a hell of a lot of doors, and the people who have these doors fit would fairly in my view expect to be able to go to their local keycutters and get them cut. They generally never asked for a key they have to order online. We get loads of Ultion keys in and people are surprised we can't cut them because we have a reputation for cutting all sorts of weird and wonderful keys, we're very rarely beaten* We'd have loved to have taken on the blanks and cut them and have enquired a few times over the years but we're an ABS Elite Centre and didn't want to spend thousands on Ultion cylinders. Now I get that they want to release blanks only to their customers, but to then restrict their customers who have spent thousands with over the years getting blanks just doesn't sit well with me. *The current influx of cheap imported locks and keys is stretching this reputation a little! grahamparker
almeriasecure
In defence of Brisant i have to say that the business model is to sell lock cylinders in large numbers. Locksmiths purchase very few compared to the door manufacturers. However, by limiting the number of key blanks means that Brisant will also gain revenue from duplication. I said in defence, but that is far as I would go in praise. I think the practice is very short sighted and does not seem to be one that has longevity. There are many other cylinder manufacturers out there to choose alternative brands to use. If I come across a cylinder that I can not cut keys for I offer an exchange for one that key blanks are available. Mike at Vauxhall
