Just wondered if anyone has any new plans for 2020, business wise. New line, services, dropping old lines etc.

Whsmith are opening next door to me, in a unit that had been empty for about 8 years.  Couldn't ask for a more beneficial neighbour. Only crossovers are umbrellas and reading glasses. 

I'll just stop selling reading glasses, no biggie.

They do a nice core range of maybe 4/6 umbrellas, I will beat them on price and quality  on these 6 lines, but also offer a more extensive range in a more prominent part of the shop .

Surprised to see a WHSmith opening a new store. Can’t be long before their out of date, overpriced business plan sees them shut forever.

I was surprised too, I thought they were on the edge of going belly up with an outdated approach to retail.

Considering giving up shoe repairs for good.

After a poor year on the key cutting side of the business I will be looking at increasing sales on them, maybe by doing more on the car key side.

Hopefully get around to adding locks to the website so we can sell of all the old huwil locks.

You will probably find you beat them on price any way

in the last couple of years I've spent so much on stock, refitting & signage I plan to reap next year & spend some money at home instead.

I'm half way through a month long train strike on my station. Sales are down at least 25%, but I'm very optimistic for the future, long term because of Whsmith moving in next door, short term because I'm having a jammie wagon wheel with my 10 o'clock tea.

can i ask which wholesaler you use for reading glasses

Eapollowholesale. Then I can tag a box or two whenever I order anything else from them. Use to use eurooptic, and sunoptic but just don't need that kind of volume, plus I stopped selling sunglasses.  If I do run short I'll top up with ones from poundland, but I worry about the ethics of that. Ironically Poundland would be the cheapest, easiest and convenient solution.
