hibsjo(SCO)
good weekend checked into Moxy hotel across the road from the venue (half the price for the one night) met Peter and Neal from siserve and Keith, Rob and the boys from colleges for an indian in town then back to the venue for some beer sat with the boys and girls from NWkeys and Silca for a few beers (i never had any TEQUILA!!) then off to bed early (ish) bright and early for show bit of business done with Keyprint, Birch, Cherry blossom,Siserve. Forgot how good a company NWKeys are and will look forward to using them again in the future turnout was poor in numbers but heard it was good for orders (40 visitors???) be good to hear from the exhibitors carry on! kobblers
Count Muppet
That’s a shame. I’m sure there’s lots of planning and expensive travel and moving stuff about. as long as they get good orders though and make a few new friends it’s all good. anyone heading to Telford this weekend for the MLA thing? Paul_
40 visitors, average spend £1k (probably less?) divided by 11 exhibitors. Take away travel expenses, pitch cost, wages etc. Surely these shows aren't sustainable with these numbers??

Depends on what you want when you host an exhibition, for us we don't look to make a profit it's more getting out and meeting end users. Of course the exhibitors look to benefit their companies which hopefully they have even on a limited attendance. Unfortunately there's fewer customers every year but we had people come some long distances to visit which was very good to see. wellsy9, Paul_ and kobblers

Broms Cobb
a crowd of my friends and myself usually attend the Spring and Autumn fairs at the NEC we all have noticed how the stall holders are slimming away, each year for the last 7 years it's shrinking beyond belief, so much so i'm not sure we will be going to the next one, maybe one or two of us instead of the 6/7 I think retail is the problem, shops are closing down and not looking like it will recover quickly. Close the annual show making it a three year one, then place central in the country maybe the NEC but I know that's expensive, if you concentrated on the one evry 3 it would be bigger and better attended imo
grahamparker
Not sure if Mick has already mentioned this below. Try and see if you can get some space at the next MLA show this years was very busy and a great show. Most shoe repairers cut keys anyway only issue will be with the snoby MLA elite who believe they are better than everyone else and do not need to mix shows. Thee where many people at the show buying auto tools and asking such basic questions as how do you tell if there is a chip in a key (i heard that 3 different times) so this suggests anyone can attend these shows anyway. Paul_
Trophex was awful last year too. It was moved to Sandown and seemed to be really small with very few exhibitors. Back to the NEC in Jan so hopefully it will be better again. I agree with Broms Cobbler (almost). A bi-yearly show in the NEC and make it really worth attending. I've had this conversation so many times with different Cutting Edge committee members but it seems to just plod along the same every year. Add suppliers such as slippers, walking sticks, leather goods, more trophy suppliers, leather merchants such as Abbey Saddlery, Website designers, giftware suppliers infact anything that could be related back to a repair shop. I know not all these suppliers will want to attend but has contact ever been made to ask the question? Also competitions and a market place area (buy today and take it away). A supplier of mine in Belgium puts on food and drink (free) at his open days, surely each attendee could be gifted a free coffee/soft drink? Change is needed otherwise the current suppliers will soon pull the plug due to the cost of attending. It must of cost the likes of Birches and Colleges thousands to turn up. kobblers and keithm

The problem is that Locksmiths do not want cobblers to see their secrets- I did try for my AUTO show in Sept next year but was advised that many Auto lockmsiths would not attend if their secrets were on show??? wellsy9
I am sure the last show in Edinburgh we had to sign in and were given a namebadge with business name etc. This time there was no sign in table so I was not sure exactly which room to go to or if it was even open. The show has been in Edinburgh 3 times now and each time there has been less and less suppliers attending. If they are to have another show in Scotland maybe somewhere more central like Lanarkshire or Stirling would be better. Or would attending the Scotland's Trade Fair at the SECC in Glasgow not be better with Cutting Edge having their own section? Only suggestions but I don't think another show in Edinburgh would be viable. Ian Tom D
