keithm
Is this post a joke? Firstly, why has this question been asked in the 'Poll' section? Secondly, surely Cutting Edge could have done a better job of marketing this event, putting a link on here 3 days before the event is hardly advertising in the best interests of the Trade is it? CDTL
Keithm The fact that i am asking a question if anyone has a link to the show in the wrong topic i am so sorry it upsets you. The fact that the biggest event in our industry in the south west is so badly advertised is not my fault. So why don't you like Lee help other people in giving the info they need You are obviously so superior to any other of us x minit uk

hibsjo(SCO)
i cant come to this one wee bit too far to travel although i did know about it as it was pretty well covered by most trade outlets carry on!
StevenB
It's a shame nobody seems to have seen the full page advert in the last copy of Cutting edge magazine... kobblers
Lee
The infos out there sure as eggs are eggs, But what if your not "in the know" someone new to the industry, The internets the first place anyone goes for extended information on anything like this these days. I just typed in a search and all manor of random pages for various cutting edge exhibitions came up, Facebook pages, October show (last), shoe repair forum, U-Marq but no "professional" shop window for "the show" No pre-register, No "exhibit" button with online payment, to entice new exhibitors, no clear "someone" to talk to about it. "Cutting Edge" is a pretty generic term. type in "bikespeeds" into google, this a new venture I'm focused on at present its a word that is as unique as it is informative. I'll come up top result followed by my facebook page. maybe even my strava club. type on a search with #bikespeeds and you'll find all the images we've been taking we never publish an image without that tag & promote it on everything we do. yet type in bike shops & you'd never find me. The show needs a rebrand.... cuttingedge doesn't tell anyone what type of show it is from the off. If you'd heard of the show but it was called "the cobbkeys show" you'd find its offical website far easier. If I was a member of the FSRS or a current exhibitor I'd be a bit disappointed. marketing manager.... Just saying. Lee keithm
StevenB
Lee, with cutting edge insight like that (see what I did there...) it's a wonder you're not still involved in the organisation, or doing something like running a trade forum. You're wasted on just running your own business kobblers and keithm
Lee
well sadly for me, increased competition locally, changing & evolving echonomics and living on a coast line made for difficuly trading for a few years. I left cutting edge because I could no longer afford to take random days off to attend meetings & I stopped running the fourm, because I've been landed a golden opportunity through bike repairs, thats escalating rapidly for me. it doesn't mean I'm any less passionate about the industry. I may have appeared at the forefront of the industry for a few years, but I don't have all the answers to making money! I do however have some skills, which I've used to keep my head above water during that diffcult period of about 4 years I've just been through! social media understanding being one of them! Mick Friend
Exhibitions is not something that can be organised by people with no experience. Probably good at many things but exhibitions is a differing art form I have been doing this for a good many years - initially the MLA show at Easter and that was a `6 day event!!! Then Lockexpo and this will be my 8th Event- along with the smaller ALEXPO every other year. (4 so far) What I can tell you with certainty is that people will not come to a show unless they know it is on, and know for some months in advance so plans can be made- It is a frequent event that shopping, the lawn, her mother will often conflict with any trade show- as will the weather and planned road closures. That, just publishing the event, in a trade magazine does not work, I will guess that 63% of the magazines are still in their polywraps on top of the filing cabinet - a further 15% will be in the little potty room and 10% will be used to mop up a cup of spilled coffee, stain, oops from a visiting pet etc.- AMHIKS Many will read of the event and the forget - which is why you get monthly e-mails about my shows from 10 month previous down to weekly in the last 6 weeks - The costs involved with shows are huge, pay for the stand, get staff to work the weekend, put them up in a hotel and feed them - That is without an exhibition stand and maybe 'extras' like a booth or electricity or a compulsory nameboard. I probably spend 10% of my show income on advertising. A recent even flopped because they failed to understand these items, although apparently 18000 people attended from 42 countries and all the exhibitors made a killing - So much so they played football in the aisle on a Saturday afternoon. I did last year offer a match up with ALEXPO and one of your shows but I got a very rude reply telling me it was a not for profit organisation and members exhibited free and they could not possibly work with me as I was a profit making company... your loss. Trade shows need to be moving all the time with new things and as the traders are swolloed like minnows by the big pike that pool gets smaller and smaller. Likewise invent a left handed floogle doogle and in 8 weeks- Turkey, lithuania and china have 3 different models with 18 franchise holders all attending shows selling the same products - likewise 'training' it is very difficult to train at a show. If the training is any good and sold out for 2-3 hours everyman and his pint disappear to go see/partake in it and the exhibition is left flat. I am available to organise weddings, funerals. exhibitions, public hangings, floggings etc. Auto Key Wizard, keithm and hibsjo(SCO)
StevenB
Along with others (I assume), I got an email from cutting edge yesterday afternoon promoting the show. I looked back & it was the first email from them for months. Too little, too late. In comparison, the trophex show sent me 27 emails from October till the show date (plus any others I may have deleted!) Yes, they probably got a bit annoying, but kept me informed, and kept the show in my consciousness. kobblers and keithm
Paul_
I am not a member of Cutting Edge (that's a story for another day) so I didn't receive an email. However surely a few hours work and Google searching they could have most repairers/key cutters/engravers details and send information to everyone. Just a thought. keithm

I I found an email in my spam folder this morning...... A nice vodaphone screen shot of the leaflet sent out as a mass email....... pure class. highly proffesional. just what your exhibitors who are paying hundreds if not thousands to promote their businesses want to see. new exhibitors enticed..... doubtful kobblers

They paid for a stand in advance but weren't there personally (they were at Moda) but were part of the Birch stand as shops get invoiced through them anyway so they did exhibit
GARYUnwin
the Bristol regional show was a better show for us, than some of the other shows of recent months, in one form or another every booked company was attending and even managed to accommodate a last minute request stand space was achieved by re arranging stand spaces. perhaps folks who do not support the industry by showing, attending and been totally negative give new ideas, suggestions and promote the industry for everyone's benefit.. we all need each other, competitors, suppliers, manufactures, and the all important end customers. Mick Friend
GAry you are right but if a lot of people did not know it was on, you all lost out - needs a rethink re advertising - it may be a 'free show to members' but it has to improve to get better
