Mike at Vauxhall
I've always taken card payment. With the introduction of chip and pin, chargebacks disappeared. With the current trend towards the inevitably of contactless payment, will there be more disputed charges. What has been anyones experience regarding contactless payment. I have my reservations. StevenB
Brilliant. We've had contactless for a while now, and although it confuses the old folks as to why they haven't had to type in their PIN number, it is so much quicker to process it's a revelation. I look forward to the payment limit of £20 being raised, later this year I think it is due to be. Mike at Vauxhall
Michael
I've not even thought about this yet but sounds interesting. What extra pricing is involved, i.e. to have it added to account, machine upgrade (currently have Ingenico ict250), % charges etc.
grahamparker
To easy to use a stolen or cloned card on as you don't even touch the card anymore. Not for me, i think it is a bad idea especially if they do up the limit.

No extra charge, just a download onto my current machine. ( not at work at moment, but pretty sure its an ingenico ict250). Should be up and running in about 4 days. When the limit goes up, I don't think you are forced to increase your limit. I will probably keep it at £ 10 until xmas at least, trial run. Should speed up card purchases, important when you work alone. keithm
Craig Gardner
we used it a lot think of the situation not for the one man shops but a busy shop with a few staff in on an average day I have 6 staff behind the counter the visa machine was connected to the network cable next to the till if someone was dealing with a customer taking engraving details etc and another guy just cut a key while you wait if the customer wanted to pay by card he would just ring in till take customers card swipe over machine then give customer card back with till receipt simples. without it we used to have to say to a customer can you move the now to let the other customer into the card machine. Since using it it has been great but £20 limit was to low so we swapped machine for a wirleless one like in a restaurant so it goes to the customer wherever they are in the shop not having to get anyone to move out the way. But all contactless cards that come in with a sale under £20 we just swipe them over the screen and as no machine receipt it saves on pdq rolls aswell Craig Mike at Vauxhall
Count Muppet
Get used to it, you can't avoid it forever. It's increasing to £30 soon. Personally I think it's great. No more thugs looking over old ladies shoulders to take their PIN numbers for big items. They will be lucky to get lunch these days before the card they stole is asking for the pin. There are So many things using RFID these days that it's fair to think that in the near future we will have chips implanted, like pets do, to pay for items, open doors, start cars, and to be used for ID/passports. Mick Friend
planting of chips in humans is commonplace now- to open restricted doors or to track senior staff if kidnapped
Michael
Do you give the customer a choice of chip & pin or contactless or just everything under £20 is automatically contactless?
Craig Gardner
My company policy is every card transaction that can be contactless goes through the machine contactless Craig Danny King
StevenB
Same as Craig. More often than not it's the first time people have done a contactless transaction & we see ourselves as helping to educate folks to the benefits of it. Not in too much detail though or the time saved on the transaction is wasted on chit chat!

Michael
Do you always ask the customer if they want a card receipt printed or just not bother unless they ask?
StevenB
Only give them one if they ask. The whole point is that it is quick & easy, though if people want a receipt, that's fine. Mike at Vauxhall and Michael

Mike at Vauxhall
Customers can be very awkward at times. It's as if they have some kind of group meeting to decide the next way to piss you off. Broms Cobb and Michael
Michael
It's suprising how many people don't know about contactless!! People just shove their card in the machine, which I then have to remove as my new machine you have to enter the price on my terminal first then tap or insert card into seperate pinpad!! What a kerfuffle!!
ironplanet uk900
We've been doing contactless since it started, cheaper to process & you can use the phone still at the same time plus it's very fast, no risk to us or the customer as it's a guaranteed limit of £20 at the moment. Michael
I bought one of these stands to keep the pinpad on and also made a little customer info sign. Also made a window sign. Mike at Vauxhall and ironplanet uk900

Michael
Looks good. Did your credit card merchant supply them. No, the stand I bought from http://www.retailgurus.co.uk/ingenico-ipp320-ipp350-pinpad-mount The signs I made myself. The window sign was vinyl cut and the stand sign was engraved laminate.
