hibsjo(SCO)
yes Paul we do trade in a very diversified way but it is us who "appear" to be treading on other peoples toes so we wont be asked along to the jewellers convention or the trophex expo or the locksmiths expo shoerepairers are nt good enough and are not wanted at these events just my thoughts and observations. on the point of selling slippers I don't want to go there sorry why would you want to fill your car up with boxes of keys or heels and then have to lump them out again when you get home? carry on! Mick Friend
oooh NO! NO! NO! - The ALEX show in October and The Locksmiths Exhibition in March you are more than welcome to come and see and I would even allow you to talk to them about your show - We don't usually allow canvassing as the exhibitors are there to sell not be sold to. just to be sure www.alexpo.co.uk registration is open www.lockexpo.co.uk - not open yet for registration - it confused people. k4mrc
An idea for 'Cutting edge' to attract newbies to the show, simply advertise in the magazine for us the customers of it to give to our suppliers who do not seem to get to it. I talked to one of my suppliers this week about it and they had no idea how to get a stand, also I have another supplier (not in our normal suppliers list) who might be interested.. Mick Friend
The ALEX show 15 stands- 500 -700 visitors The main show 60+ anything around 1100-1200 visitors but I squeeze and squeeze try never to turn away an exhibitor but we do allow 'table top stands' ie table two chairs. we don't do 'booths' - I get very little poor feedback - there is always the odd arse who says -same old -same old - and the I would never go to that show I only ever go to the MLA show!!! But I do it by myself no committee - no grief - I have a plan and sell to those that were in that space last time (first) I keep the price keen - it's not about huge profit - I imagine if I totted up the hours etc I would be on less than minimum wage - but I'm occupied and not bored - I thought I had another show to organise for another industry but their 'committee' can't make a decision without another two or 3 weekends away. hibsjo(SCO)
it would appear to me there is an idea that to actualy join"cutting edge" costs a lot of money and thats before you take into account cost of exhibition space. is this the case? i have heard a couple of my suppliers state that they would love to go to exhibition but the price of becoming a member is beyond them? carry on! petercoulson
You don't have to be a member but you go to the bottom of the list, ce membership is only about £100 so don't see that as an issue because you then get discount on mag adverts and exhibition stands
keithm
It always amazes me how rumours spread when all it takes is one call to Cutting Edge, Rachel, and ask exactly what the costs are If a prospective exibitor cannot afford £100 per year for membership and a stand from £350, then it's highly unlikely that he will go to Exhibition and offer 20% discounts
Lee
I agree. If I can afford to take the shoe repair forum stand to an exhibition (didn't this time I know, but that was logistics!) then it ain't that costly! unfounded Joe.

hibsjo(SCO)
ffs a £100 to join a club it must have cost more several years back as that when I spoke to exhibitors who thought the price was prohibitive to their businesses so I assumed it would have cost more now not unfounded! carry on! k4mrc
does it matter what a 'new supplier' sells? As every time one that I know of who has been interested, all he has got off of one company is asking what he will be selling? To me at least if there is interest, why the questioning? It almost as if this is a 'special' club to be in - vetting him before he has had even joined?

To become a member of CE you have to be voted on by the committee, in all the years I have been around no-one has ever been refused but there are special rules about companies from outside the UK who do not have a UK based agent. What they sell should not be an issue either, we are always trying to encourage/find suppliers that may give repairers a different choice.
Tom D
to be honest ive always thought it was a special clique i wasnt impressed if im gonna drive all that way i want to see something different imagine if birch pulled out thered be nothing left to see. maybee the cutting edge commitee should build a bridge with johny t he always had an impessive stand personalyid like to see some of the european companys exibit but i do think tat might be steping on sombodys toes? but then imight be wrong
Paul_
I've got to say from my experience I found the CE committee very welcoming and far from a special clique. I found dealing with Rachel always a pleasure, I was encouraged as a new company to exhibit at Sandown last year and welcomed in person by committee members. Everyone on the committee seemed very keen to see a newbie try and introduce new products to the trade. That said, I do think the exhibition needs some tweeting to make it appeal to more people. Not an easy task I know but unfortunately the same old faces seem to attend.
