Lee
I've never been one for selling life time guarantees, especially when it comes to watches. They don't have access to a mystical battery that lasts a life time, they purely replace it under guarantee when in fails & charge accordingly for the predicted future life of the watch. I have several people ask about this & once explained I never lose them, which tells me something! Lee

ironplanet uk900
It's a good money spinner though... and if you stand by your guarantee... whats wrong with offering it..

Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
If the Battery lasts 2 years, will the customer still have the receipt date stamped!!! My guess is that very few would be able to find it when needed. I also guess that if the customer does turn up with the guarantee than some other service will be offers.. such as a clean or pressure test for which I presume they would be charged. The cost of the Battery fitted free would not affect profitability.
Count Muppet
In those 2 years the leather strap will have worn out or a metal strap would want new pins, also the glass may be scratched or the case may need refurbishing. The watch may have stopped because it needs servicing. Giving away the pennies to gain the pounds. Once that guarantee is sold the watch customer belongs to whoever sold it. Also getting them back into the shop reminds them of other services on offer GLENGRAVING
grahamparker
I have a casio baby g watch i purchased in las vegas in 1990. It has been on my wrist ever since and been in several oceans around the world during my diving expeditions. It takes a lithium 3 volt battery which i have replaced about 7 times and the face of the watch is guarded so it has no scratches and still has the original strap although it is now very faded. I am not sure how much longer it can last but it is so damn comfortable to wear,my point is you can never guess at how long a watch can last and if you offer lifetime guarentees they can eventually cost a lot more than you could guess. Better to charge a reasonable price each time a customer requires a new battery. We give ours a 1 year guarentee on 1.5 volt and 2 years on 3 volt and i can only remember a couple of times when i have had to replace a battery for free. Count Muppet
at a minimum charge of £14.95 for lifetime you could probably have it changed another 10 times before they started losing money, most customers would probably have a key cut or even pick up a pair of laces while they wait for the battery replacement
k4mrc
I have opened watch backs to find a small sticker with hand written date on, is this the way that companies are offering 'lifetime warranties?' if not maybe if you want to do a similar one you might take the same stance, at least you will know your regular customer is still calling on you for service.
