HarryHeffernan
How do people finish these type of shoes? Mainly when it comes to reheeling them. I get a few in every now and then that are like a rounded mould which makes it a bit harder to finish round just the part that's being replaced but doesn't look great if you take off a bit more. It goes from a shiny finish to a Matt finish that stands out. Just curious if there's other options or not as silly as it sounds? cobbcas
kobblers
Not sure what you mean. Got any pics? Rick.
grahamparker
Open the heel trimmer as wide as it will go and allow it to go a little deeper than normal otherwise use a fine band on the finisher and a steady hand and get as close to the edge as you dare depending on the colour/finish of the shoe heel. kobblers
keithm
Or scour the whole heel, if it's plastic, and then use thinners to rub over the heel for a lovely shine kobblers
kobblers
Never heard that approach before, Keith - I'll give that a go. Rick.
grahamparker
I have only ever done that on heels with leather covers as they polish up nice, Plastic can be difficult to predict how it will react to scouring.
keithm
It works on the sole edges as well when repairing a all in one plastic unit kobblers
kobblers
I take it you mean adhesive thinners and not stripper? Rick. keithm

x minit uk
You or use 2 layers of masking tape around the heel block as a guide to how close you can scour up to. completelocks and kobblers
HarryHeffernan
I didn't have any pictures as the ones I done was picked up straight after. But taping it sounds like a good idea. I do that sometimes with leathers so I don't get polish/ink on the uppers and never thought about doing it with moulded shoes x minit uk

For 'flat' heel blocks either heel trimmer on toppiece or scour whole block on fine band. When scouring make the last one (with hand coming towards you) go all the way round in 1 movement. With thermo plastic you can then make them 'shiny' by pressing on quite hard on the brush, then a gentle brush going away from yourself. not sure if this makes any sense... kobblers

Bren
Yeah that makes sense Thanks a lot Be carefull when pressing on hard on the brush, too hard and the block will snag.
SteelCityShoes
As Keith said, you can make it shiny again by using thinner, but it will only work on TPR. If it’s PVC you’re better just trying to avoid the issue entirely and just trim your top piece. HarryHeffernan
