ironplanet uk900
Couldn't you think of any good advice then....only shite advice? I would tell the customer what happened and buy them a new pair of shoes... you'll never successfully dye over leather impregnated with wax & I would advise the customer to take the shoes back to the guy who soled them as they've made a hideous job. That's all..
gsc
To be fair he did tell the customer and offered a new pair of shoes...Customer didn't want them replaced..And yes you can successfully dye over shoes impregnated with wax, butter, oil or anything else.. I've done it.. And if smokedog wants to send them to me I'll sort them.

robinh
I have a product called Renomat which looks like a cream but smells of acetone. It suggests on the label (in French ) that it will remove silicone amongst other things from any smooth leather. I have used it on various dark stains on light coloured leather and it works . Don't know if it will work after hot water has been used though . I would have suggested the freezer method as first attempt. . Anyone seen Hugh recently ? hibsjo(SCO)
so Robin is that stuff like the old Mel grease and tar remover? carry on!
Cromwell
Your best bet is woly combi proper think it's just called combi cleaner now though. It's brilliant stuff for removing greasy and waxy marks. Would take a few applications to get that out but it should do the job.
robinh
Hi Joe. If I remember correctly the old Meltonian stuff was a fairly harsh cleaning agent similar to that used by the dry cleaners. It used to harden the leather. This stuff is a more gentle cleaner that seems to loosen the stain until it lifts off. I have also used Woly Combi Proper and it is an excellent product . Just trying to get the topic back on track

smokedog
Thank you every one that Genuinely tried to offer some help or advice ! Which is what I thought this forum was about. Most of the ways that could actually help basically left the leather totally bare and in a uncared for state. Hopefully cream/polish will rectify it . Still it was good advice. Which is what I asked for ! Yes I did get it removed ! I could start another whole disagreement about the cost of jobs. What is the correct method. What is the most cost effected method. Then most importantly what the Customer is willing to pay for. Which in the North of Ireland equates to £16 to £18 for sole and heel combined replacement, apart from the capital centre. I have a funny feeling that at those prices there wont be too many offering to better my services. Any ways what really has disappointed me the most was when I came to this forum I came for inspiration ! Particularity from Lee but all I have got is criticism how people with more money to spend would do it. Doesn't really help to be honest. Having said that ! I do use some advice from here ! Ive only been doing this for over 1 year only want to learn
robinh
I concur . Sometimes I do think that individuals use the forum to express their opinions a little too forcibly whilst hiding behind a anonymous name. I am sure that the original concept by Lee was to generate a community of like minded people to share their experiences . Not to be ridiculed and offended. I appreciate a bit of rough and tumble and gentle ribbing but sometimes I personally think it goes too far. I also use a forum which much to my surprise mainly consists of American members although the origins of the forum are distinctly English. These people are unfailingly polite and must provide their real names or they cannot contribute. Just saying...... Carry on Robin Healy.
Lee
It's all too easy to take things to heart. I used to really get offended at some of the things said to me. But ultimately I always get the answers, along with the banter. So it's a win win IMO. I've also improved some aspects of my business through topics that I've never even made a reply or been active with. I've laughed at people, with people and about people and have realised by tomorrow people forget it anyway. It costs no extra to wear a cheap suit sharply tailered than a poor fitting expensive one. It's not what you do, but the way you do it in this industry. I have a great reputation locally, but my customers won't blow the budget for my work. robinh
Hi Gray, It's OK I'm just trying to get my post count up, its embarrassingly low and I don't want Joe to have a go at me Your French was spot on but I haven't worked out how to copy and paste yet. Am a bit of a techno dinosaur on the computer. Have just found out this week I now qualify for a Bus Pass so I might be coming over to see you one day soon. How long will it take on a bus?
