elfman
there are 1 or 2 points you missed out there steve 1 how many members of the public will know what size heel or more to the point what size pin to use 2 what % of shoes do you get in that can be done without any form of leveling or tiding up in one way or another
Colouredheeltips
He StevenB, Basically we have a product that no one knows exists. To tell people about them they have to be able to buy them and to do this we needed the website. This is also why the black ones are on there so people may stumble across us when looking for normal ones. This being for retail and trade customers. There was no point going straight to the shoe repairers with a product if there was no one to buy them. The reason behind the DIY section was because after walking into my local cobblers with my brand new pair of new look shoes and red tips, I was told sorry I can't do them due to the cheap material on the heel. So I had to do it myself which certainly doesn't look as good but at least they have the option if they have one of those lovely useless local cobblers I have also read about on here (Lots of giggles from your comments on your customers though, keep them coming!) There is a price list on there and the discounts grow with the amount of pairs ordered. For example for 100 pairs we make just over £5 a box. Our most expensive part of the process was getting the custom dyes made for the product and the manufacturers need to purge their machines and stop normal production to make them so they charge a little extra for them. We don't make a huge profit on cobbler sales as we wanted the prices to be as low as possible but the 1 pair at £1.50 price is also cheaper than the other online websites. In answer to the last section, you are correct, if the cobblers don't have them available there is no point giving them just that option as we wouldn't sell any and a few sales helps as we are using any profits to bring out more colours. We have only just started selling these and started making cobblers aware of them so to the 'not make enough money selling only to trade' question, I couldn't answer that. We need to create the demand for them and then see what happens.
Colouredheeltips
I actually agree with you elfman, it's not the same finished product if it isn't done professionally but I didn't have a choice but to do it myself to my last pair due to my useless local cobbler. If we could make a success selling just to you guys we would never mention DIY again!

robinh
Curioser and curioser. I would have thought that pink was a much more saleable colour than magenta. And what is magenta ?
StevenB
If this were an episode of Dragons Den, I'd have been 'out' a while ago now (yes, I too have an unused bag of pink PU's on the shelf), but I'm interested to see if colouredheeltips become internet millionaires, and I'm entirely prepared to eat humble pie & order them if the demand is ever there! Robin, our good friend Wikipedia describes magenta as 'purplish red' - maybe it is this years fashionable shoe colour? Pink must be soooo last season... it's not what I'm wearing though... Colouredheeltips
Well hopefully our efforts will help you sell some StevenB or at least let the young ones know you exist, it's amazing how many people we have spoken to don't. . Image attached robinh (hopefully).
robinh
I'm old fashioned, I looked it up in the Oxford English Dictionary Steven but it still looks like pink to me. I'm quite willing to be re educated though. Perhaps colouredheeltips could shed some light?

keithm
The only way I can ever see these becoming popular enough to support a business, is if you attached the product to an event. For instance, if you were to attach the product to Cancer research, a 'PINK' event, then you could ask participating cobblers to donate a proportion of the profit to the cause. Other than that, I'm out (thats for StevenB) Just my ten penny's worth
