Just tried a update sent from Silca to update one of our Silca Vipers. Half way through the update the software lost comms with the machine and now it will not connect and the display on the Viper says REV 2.2 Its now dead! Loads of work booked in and now I wish I never updated!! ahh!

So a warning becareful if you update a Silca Viper to the latest software.

Hi Mates,

I have ordered the special I1 adapter (genuine) to cut renault car keys on Silca Viper.

It is the firts time I use it.

I have a lost key this afternoon on a renault Megane and car is 80 miles away :(

I have ordered key code but when I insert cut and press enter it show message "adapter not detected".

I have tried to clean and put carefully the thin adapter exactly as described in the light adapter manual but same result.

Please does anyone know if there is a special setting to do or does it need an update (mine is 1.1.014) ??

Thanks :HELP:

well its not just you dan , had my viper for 2 years , went to update for 1st time today , screen now shows rev2.2 and wont update , spoke to mat and i have to drive to crawley on a nice 6 hour round trip to have a new mother board fitted .

wont ever update again , and will never buy silca again either.

Not only must i pay £85 plus vat for the motherboard , its a previously repaired one , apparantly they fit a repaired 2nd hand one to your machine , then repair yours and fit it to the next machine that comes in , and then my only 2 options were to drive the 3 hours each way to crawley in the early hours and wait for the repair on site , or send it by courier .

well with the fear of it comming back in worse state via courier , and of course the fact that i cant be without it for a week or so this way , driving to crawley was the only option if i wanted to carry on working.

it seems this has happened to a good number of machines , always same fault , always on update . used the supplied leads and win transfer program , followed the instructions to the letter .

when i called matt at silca , explained it had died during an update , no hesitation , he told me exactly what my screen was saying , and that there was nothing i could do or he could do without the machine , he may be able to force the update , but more likely a reconditioned motherboard.

bad enough that the machine works perfectly , then dies on its 1st update , but to have to take a day off and spend all day on the road to have it fixed , is just twisting the knife , but if you want to work you have no choice, and they know it i guess.

i wont buy silca again , il also steer all i talk to towards other more reliable makes with proper after sales service , i expected better from this machine , and will now never update it again , its just not worth the risk, so a bit bitter , id say so.

lesson learnt , just never update the machine , run my laptop with instacode instead , i only updated to get the renault key card key on it so i could cut these , wont repeat this error , though an expensive piece of metal if one cant risk updating it .

at least for you dan they came to you and fitted it, i must be too soft , so up at 4am to head to sussex to beat the traffic, then hang around for 2 hours till matt starts at 9am , get it fixed how ever long that takes , then the drive back to notts .

Just an update on this one , just back from an 8 hour round trip to silca unit in crawley , and as unhappy , i was very critical in previous posts , so to address the balance a little , although still a pain to have to do such a long trip to sort the problem , i cant fault Matt at silca , total gent and top bloke.

Matt managed to sort out the problem without my viper needing a new motherboard , so there was no charge for this , he then diagnosed another problem and fitted a new fan for me whilst i was there .

i was outside the unit at 10 to 9 this morning , and true to his word , as soon as matt arrived at 9 am , he made me a cup of tea and got straight on it , by 945 my viper was alive again and back on my van , at this point all stress and concern drained away .

top bloke , cant praise him enough , what ever silca pay him it isnt enough , he made a bad experience a bearable one , what ever issues i had with silca or their product , i cant fault the guy.

WARNING TO OTHERS UPDATING THEIR VIPER

my lead and viper were fine , whilst updating , my computer downloaded windows updates , which is probably what caused this , speaking to matt , this or even the screen saver kicking in can have an adverse affect , as can too much going on , on the computer at the same time.

ensure when updating you close down all other programs and turn off auto updates on windows and stop screen saver kicking in , and all should be fine .

happy conclusion . :D , depite heat of moment feelings and nightmare journey , humble pie eaten , silca viper rocks again
