Gray
To follow on from this lets say you have a batch of plates to do but with all different names for example Llandudno F.C. name 2010 what you would then do is enter your text as before but enter $1$ in place of the name. Llandudno F.C. $1$ 2010 bring up the standard production box again enter the amount of plates in the X & Y boxes and click text merge. this will bring up another box, enter the names one under the other click preview to check then click OK
Gray
You can enter the $ symbol for as many lines as you like Llandudno F.C. $1$ $2$ 2010 then when you go into text merge enter your text like this Joe Bloggs,Top Goal Scorer. No space after the comma, the comma separates line one from line 2 Hope this makes sense
windycity
i am sure you all know this but anyway incase someone doesn't. when engraving coloured pet tags the first run never quite comes out how you like it and you have to press repeat on the engraving machine panel or have a have the diamond rotating which leaves a odd look instead try this do all your text sizing etc then you would normally click on the engrave button then a process box comes down click on diamond engrave then look at the bottom of that box theres a padlock click on it to open it then under process setting change the depth to 3.00 then below that in chip setting change chip to 1.5 then carry on normally. what this does is change the pass over run from 1 to 2 much easier.this on a gem vistool 7 windy
StevenB
I do almost everything using keyboard shortcuts, so don't often delve into the menus. Here's one I discovered by mistake due to a fat fingers keyboard moment. I normally edit text using ALT+S to change each line at a time. ALT+T opens a dialogue box where you can edit all the text in your engraving job. You can't add more lines, but just for altering the text in a multi-line job, it's the biz! \:D/
Gray
Wow fat fingers rule, good tip Stevemondo, need to select all first though. I missed that one.
Gray
Also good tip windy, I use that on brass plates too. I prefer to do 2 or 3 cuts on brass.
Gray
Bit of a mouse man myself only because I can't remember all the shortcuts. Hey nobody said it would get easier as you got older.
derek
i am going to be speaking to a rep today with regards to buying the GEM-CX5,is there additional software that comes with it,and also did i read correctly that the gravo clamps work on it too?
StevenB
It should come with v8 of the engraving software which is just about everything you'd ever need. Option add ons are available, to enable you to do picture engraving. The clamps that come with it will fit gravo machines as well as U-marq, as they have 2 sets of fitting holes in them. I don't think gravo jigs will fit this one though (unless you put another set of fitting holes in them).
derek
it seems the picture engraving is only £295 plus VAT,most likely worth buying it too,if things work out

ANDY
if you are on the engraving screen you can either hit "Alt + S" to manually enter size of letters or click on letters to drag them bigger, you need to hit the resize button along the top of your screen it's like a small square with a star around it i suggest messing about with all the various buttons along the top, you can rotate, arc, kern letters etc
