But why this refusal of short search strings?

 

Era, MTL, WIL, and lots of other perfectly valid 3-letter search terms get a "no entry found" reply, even though they would seem perfectly legit.

 

It isn't a big problem, but it makes me scratch my, er, head.

I should add TSA to that list of recurring searches, that the forum swallows.

 

What is the score with TSA keys? - they look very standard, and yet, I have never sold or made a single one yet.

Mr Bargy - nonsense. The search was useless under former ownership and it's just as useless now. I use Google site search. Remember when all the deep links got broken? That was a right pain and that happened aaages ago

Mr Bargy is i think referring to the site BEFORE he swapped servers (approx 2-3 years ago, might even be longer) and the search WAS hugely different.

Hi. We have been playing about with settings and have also contacted the forum developers to see if we can improve the search facility.

The settings we have just changed seem to be bringing back a lot more results for the searches.

If you could all please have a play about and make sure it is working more efficiently.

Just did a search on SKS which returned no results. However, I have a suspicion that if I do one now, it will return this post. 

Does the database need re-indexing after your tweaks?

Loads better, just had a search for some of my old posts and it found them straight away.

It will seem that if you go to http://shoerepairer.info/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=search&fromMainBar=1 and then search in the top bar, it brings up the results - very strange.

When I searched for SKS it brought up 131 results.

Still waiting to hear back from the forum developers.

I believe the Google search is a good substitute, though: gmt site:http://shoerepairer.info/ will get everything about GMT keys, for example.
