actionman
Hi my mate has just bought a Astra H which came with a flip remote & a none flip remote. Basically the transponder in the flip remote has packed up so it won't start the car. As he's struggling for work he wants the cheapest fix possible. So, does anybody know if there's room in side the flip key to fit a TPX4 transponder? I've never had a Astra H flip remote in bits so i have no idea. I had a look at it yesterday but couldn't see how to fully open it up once i'd removed the battery cover. Is there a screw behind the Vx badge on the back? I didn't want to start attacking it with a screwdriver & wrecking his case thanks Craig
actionman
Yes the transponder is on the board but it's dead. If a TPX4 would fit then wouldn't it work if i cloned the transponder in his other remote?
rapidlocks
often by the time you play at options , it works out cheaper long term to just get a new flip key , by the time you weigh up costs of tpx 4 chip , possibly a repair cover , time etc , its better all round just to buy new and sort job once and for all . have you checked the chip are all legs soldered ? it would be rare for one to just stop starting the engine , plenty where remote fails but dont see many where not starting engine. actionman
i've not totally opened up the remote case as i couldn't see how to do it without breaking it. I removed the battery cover but couldn't see how the rest of the case would split open. Is there a screw behind Vx badge?

I agree with Martin though, for all the messing around, you can pick these remotes up cheap enough.
actionman
I know they're not expensive. I'm just trying to help a mate out that's really struggling with money at the moment. He'd rather just have to pay for a TPX chip as apposed to a flip remote

Count Muppet
If he just wants to save money, why not clone him a seperate key and he can have it on the same ring as the remote and can use them together. Not pretty but will do him until he can afford the proper thing

actionman
i know £40 is nothing for a flip remote. The lad is seriously skint. He'd a builder & has hardly had any work on lately to the point where he said he'll only just have enough for his mortgage at the end of the month. I said i'd do him a flip remote & he could just pay for it once he'd got himself back on track money wise but he won't have it even though we've been good mates for 20 years or so. He's dropping off his flip remote tonight for me to look at. If the transponder looks like it's securely fitted I may just do him a new flip key anyway & he'll just have to swallow his pride! lol
Lee
for a mate of 20 years, I would have probably spun a yarn, about the suppliers having a pre-used one & have given it him. My best mate never pays for his bits & peices, but he helps me out regularly. what goes around comes around, wheres your sense of charity.

derek
think you need glasses Keith, or stronger ones anyway, actionman has already said he had offered to do it for his mate and wait until he was back on his feet before getting payment,a senior moment from you perhaps? rapidlocks
depends how good a mate i suppose , if a good mate then id just give him a new flip , but i also know some people just cant accept what they see as charity , even from a mate , if this is the case , then hes a builder , so has usefull skills , im sure you must have an odd £40 job that needs doing in a straight swap. actionman
bit of an update. Been to my mates this morning & put a cloned TPX4 in his flip key case which 100% worked. Failed on the 1st attempt but was successful on the 2nd. Think the problem with the 1st attempt may have been when you do the sniff bit! lol! Don't think i had it near the ignition for long enough
