Simes
rjl....I'm not saying I necessarily have the right thinking or attitude on this , I'm considering the views put forward seriously. As for the principle is it not like going into a fish chip shop and asking for a raw fish and a couple of potato's so that your can make your fish supper at home? I think the chip shop owner might think that was a bit cheeky? Sure, you might by the ingredients from a supermarket as you might by a shoe repair kit from a DIY store but not from the guy who makes his living providing the service surely? Just a different way of looking at it but I take the point that at the end of the day if you make money from selling the kit then why not?

Penny's dropped then Simes. If they don't want to pay your prices then sell them a kit. Your'e still making money.
Guest Whiteboot
Yes, sell them the stick-ons but also sell them a set of stretchers plus a patcher & some superglue so they don`t just bring in the shit they haven`t got the brains or time for & then expect you to do it for fifty pence. These people have always really annoyed me. A lady once asked how much to hand stitch her caravan awning measuring twenty-five feet. My answer was thirty pounds, Her reply, I don`t want to spend more than a fiver. I wish I wasn`t brought up to be so polite. People think I`m mad, guess what. keithm
My experience of DIY kits is that they generally don't work. This will often bring that customer back in to have the repair done properly. But you have sold the customer a product for them to have a go, were helpful and turned a profit. Most customers will only do this once, so you'll get their work everytime in future as you've proved what you can do.

Guest Whiteboot
The woman in question came in later to speak to the boss about my rediculous quote. He agreed that it was rediculous. If he had quoted it would have been fifty quid. She was really p....ed off.

Help the customer is the name of the game in my view, sell them the stick on soles and make a profit (someone will) then you get a second bite at the cherry when they make a pigs ear of it. Antagonising customers is not the way forward.
