windycity
hi i have 2 patchers they 29k 15 and 29k71 whats the difference is it just age i know some parts are different but is one model better than the other cheers farty
petercoulson
the 15 is a very old model (WW1 time-ish) and the forerunner to the next model of which the 29k71 is one. main differences you see are the shuttle drive mechanism - the 71 has a removable section otherwise very similar

petercoulson
shame you never asked about the spring only Lyn, these are in the region of £8.00 +VAT each and i double checked the shuttle price which is approx £80 inc VAT - still a lot I know but that is how it is with a lot of parts now unfortunately. good luck with your hunt

Pyrite
another thing that can cause a patcher to drop stitches that I have noticed is cold weather/air conditioning. Probably not a major problem but try sitting it in a warmer part of the shop. In my shop, the air conditioner is a little "screwy" at times and blasts air out colder than usual. On those days I know that there will be a problem whilst stitching unless I warm it up first. Similar to your older outsole stitchers where they need to warm up before you can stitch with them. Craig Gardner
i have 2 singers one a 29k58 which was refurbed by standard and made electic and sprayed silver to match my finisher not sure how much it cost as i bought it with my finisher and press and heat lamps for 10k plus vat. but it is the worst machine i have. i never use it now as it has never stitched correct from day one. but i have an older singer still on the black cast iron treddle base in my other shop it works a treat and does all the stitching from this shop aswell and i bought it on ebay for £200 inc delivery.so i think it comes down to how well the machine has been looked after from day one. Pyrite
One particular method that we over here in Aussieland do when we get a patcher that we don't know the history of is to dump it into a drum of kerosene. Cleans it all out and allows you to see the wear on the machine. Then a nice oil up and then check timing/tension/etc and it is usually off and running like a champ. Interesting to hear of different practices around the place....
