cobblers.keys
Customer has just come in saying she took her car key to timpsons for a new shell on Vauxhall mariva but now the button doesn't bleep on my remote tester or open the doors but still starts the car. I have tried the battery which is fine. What can be the problem and what would be done to fix it? Thanks
rapidlocks
if no signal and battery is good and correctly fitted and battery connections are good , then they will have damaged the board during the case change , either find the faulty component and repair it or do a new key , my option would be new key as this can be guaranteed . da miller

She said that the shop took the key off her to replace key but when she returned to collect it was told they don't have the correct case so gave her the key back. Since then the central locking doesn't work?

cobblers.keys
I can't do keys with central locking on which is what she wants. Her key still starts the car.
HowardK
Just me but... You say customer dropped off key to Timpsons, so I am assuming without the car present, in which case there was no prior testing of key at car by Timpsons to confirm the functions worked ?, Assuming...everything worked properly before customer supposedly went to Timpsons...send them back to Timpsons, Before you get blamed for any damage that may require dealer or garage and or expensive key and programing and or parts, and you being billed for it...customer needs to return to Timpsons for the problem to be fixed as they were the last to supposedly work on it and supposedly messed things up, Hope customer kept the receipt, And or send customer to someone you know & trust that works on this type system to look into and or fix the problem and Timpsons should reimburse customer for it, And or send them to the car dealer and Timpsons should reimburse for it, I don't understand why customer did not have Timpsons fix the problem as they supposedly created the problem, or at least they should have suggested a place to take it to be fixed and would reimburse for it, I do not know the full history and facts of the car and key or if the customer is completely truthful, But again that is just me... jimbo6930
key could have gone out of sync with the car, possible fix is put key in ignition, turn to position 2 (with all the lights on the dash but not starting the engine) hold the lock button for 10 seconds, this resyncs in a lot of cases, if not check manual for further procedures as it sometimes variews cobblers.keys
Count Muppet
Their story sounds dodgy if timpson broke it as they claim, the first place they should go back to is timpson who would fit or replace it no problem

I did say to her that I can't understand why they would open up the case before having a replacement case available only to change the battery and even then only flip the back cover off. I was suspicious about her story but said I would make enquires (eg here) to see what could be done. This is why I always check with remote tester in front of customer before doing anything else to a key. I learned that lesson the hard way myself. Peaky
I wouldn't at all be surprised if timpsons has never even seen this key! Seems to me that you bringing out a tester before you did anything else scuppered their plans!

Thanks, I rang the customer this morning and said if she brings the key in I will take a look inside the key. When her husband came in I opened it up in front of him and the battery terminal was missing and the screw that holds the two sides of the case was also missing so I put it in a new case and all working again. Thanks for the help. Cameron Avery
