Forest Cobbler
Would any of you be able to replicate this key? It's for a 17th century chapel. Thanks, Valerie CitySafe
Mick Friend
A lot of work in these maybe 15 -20 hours has to be hand filed - the blank cut to size Try carrier locksmiths http://www.carrierlocks.co.uk/ they are not cheap 60/70 quid
ponsaloti
I think £70 for around 15 work is way to cheap mick.
abababa
If you did the side cuts and middle cut on the mortice machine, could you not clamp the key in a laser machine and do most of the rest? May wreck a cheap chinese cutter.. Never done it but just a thought...
grahamparker
I spent 4 hours on the last one I ever did and there was an air bubble in the metal it snapped on first use. All blanks went in the scrap bin and I would never touch one again. To much work for very little profit.

Same problem here with a couple of these ,only sell them now for the novelty value, or for use as a decoration.
grahamparker
In reality if you charged an hourly rate the minimum for one of these keys depending on quality and accuracy should be a minimum of £150 per key.

If this were a one part for a machine, it would be £300+
rmarsters
We've sent these on to Anglia Locksmiths (http://www.anglia-locksmiths.co.uk/) before and also their was a guy called Antique Locks (or something similar) who did them, I don't think he had a website
Forest Cobbler
Thanks for all the replies. We'll check out Anglia Locksmiths and Carrier Locks and try to track down this Antique Locks guy, and see what they say. Thanks again, Valerie
