Keyed alike cylinders!!

Recommended Posts

Have to get this off my chest called out after a burglary to a property needing seven new cylinders customer asked for 4 to be keyed alike 3 to differ I recommended a Cisa astral cylinder which I ordered and received the next day excellent service ! The cylinders are advertised in catalogue supplied with 2 keys. Which I have told my customer I paid the extra keying alike charge x4 and went back to fit. However when I came to fit there was only 3 keys for 4 cylinders keyed alike customer asked why only 3 keys for 4 locks having ordered similar locks from other company they normally come with 2 per lock when keyed alike I ring sks to be told only 3 keys for supplied keyed alike orders and that they would pay postage but I would have to pay for any extra blanks I say I would at the very least expect 1 key per cylinder I can't get my head around I pay for a lock with 2 keys then pay extra to key alike but only get 3 keys 😤 After excellent service Bad business what do yous think

Appears to be common practice among some suppliers, but it seams a bit petty to me, the cost of a few blanks??

There is a reason for this, if you want 3 keyed alike you get 3 to differ first take one as your Sample then strip down and re-key the others to match. This is standard practice in the locksmithing industry with euro cylinders and has been for years. If you wanted them all to have keys you would have to buy a stocked key alike suite. The keys from the 2 cylinders are already cut to differ so no longer useable.

I thought that was the reason myself but I’ve noticed companies like Brisant do some sort of modular lock that you build from scratch.

Surely for such a small cost it would just be sensible to send 2 keys for every cylinder anyway?
