Michael
So we started out as a forum to help our trade and each other but now we can't unless we donate to a charity!!! shadowster
Lee
no michael I don't think thats fair to say. I am all for helping one another, but there does come a point when something steps across the line from a F.O.C favour to something commercial. I would not expect Dean Edwards to have produced this plaque http://shoerepairer.info/topic/19609-a-big-thankyou-to-dean-from-the-engraving-company/?hl=%2Bdean+%2Bedwards for nothing, or even a charity donation. BUT it helped his customer secure a plaque that he otherwise would have lost. The same with this vector, it is not a straight forward, 5 minute vector it is a time consuming skill based piece of work that I said I'd do for a £50 donation to the mizen foundation, quite charitable on my part I thought & NOT for my own monetary gain. If Shadowster only has £30 in the pot for the work then perhaps you could do it for him? maybe for free? Lee grahamparker and Lock Stock
Michael
lol I had a small window today & did this...... saltcoats.jpg I did it for the crack really, but it still took me 2 hours & for haggling a donation to the mizens I've just deleted it. Good luck. Lee For me this just come across as petty and childish, (and you don't normally come across like that). He offered a reasonable VOLUNTARY DONATION, and you did the job and then deleted it. Personally I don't give to charity but if I wanted something doing I would pay someone and if they wanted to donate that payment to charity, then that's there perogative. This feels like people are being blackmailed into giving to a charity for help. BTW that logo is a bit outside of my expertise and would probably take me a LOT more than 2 hours!! shadowster

Lee
I was wrong to do the job, i agree I apologize for the way I handled it. Anyone else on do a vector service ,normally pay dean for the service but he is a bit busy for the vector am needing and its got a fair amount of detail I can offer a vector service for this logo, however I feel it would take some time to complete & would charge £50.00 But I would donate this to the mizen foundation. grahamparker
Sorry, but i am in total agreement with Lee, we give out time and knowledge and skill for free and ask for a donation to be made. Not everyone donates (some forget) but the money is going to a worthy cause, i have never put a price on a donation and it is really annoying when you check and nothing has been donated. Shadowster is a tight git and should pay someone to teach him how to do Vectors so he can do his own, but also he can spend 2/3 hours of his time doing one for someone else who then begrudgingly pays £5 for his time to see how it feels. Just look at the Vector requests in the last year and i will bet Shadowster is way out in front of any other member, doesn't mean he shouldn't ask but if he is getting so much work then surely he is making good profit from the jobs he has will earn enough to pay someone to teach him. StevenB
So we started out as a forum to help our trade and each other but now we can't unless we donate to a charity!!! Where it is just advice that is sought, that's fair enough, and what a forum is best at, and you wouldn't expect to pay for it. However, where what someone is asking for is an actual product or service, from which they will make direct financial gain, then it's only fair to have to pay. In the days before the forum this payment would have usually gone to another commercial enterprise. If the same payment & exchange of services is now able to take place, but with a worthy charity benefiting instead, then surely it's a win-win situation? The end user is still getting the product or service needed to make money from their customer & the fact that the payment is going to a good cause can only be a good thing. Well, that's what I think anyway. grahamparker and Lock Stock
shadowster
Anyone else on do a vector service ,normally pay dean for the service but he is a bit busy for the vector am needing and its got a fair amount of detail here is the original post. i had asked if anyone else does a vector service, no point did i ask for it cheap or even free, i even said it had a fair bit of detail. and was expecting it to be costly. and as i also said i did try it myself but it wasnt good enough, i even tried an online service that was suggested.but still not good enough. as for lee i always found him very helpful and helped me out plenty of times as every member has been . sometimes i have donated sometimes i didnt i have offered to help other members never took or asked for money charity or for myself and hope to help if needed , but i thought it was a bit childish doin the logo just because he can. and put it up for show at no point did i mention a fiver. i only mentioned if it was £30.. as thats what it was worth to me i wasnt been cheap or haggling it just wasnt worth it to me as it would have cost me more to convert than sell but you'll be glad to know it wont put me off asking for someting later on
