Hi chaps.

Yesterday I was cutting some keys for a customer when a very small piece of metal shot into my eye, I was wearing my normal glasses and not my goggles. I imediatly got up to the hospital. The piece of metal was firmly stuck into my eyeball, it took 2 doctors and an eye specialist 3 hours to get it out. The doctor then told me that only time will tell if you will regain your sight in that eye. To say I was frightened was an understatement. I am now sat at home in pain and worrying about my job.

The moral is please don't do what I did and please please please always wear a very good pair of goggles when cutting keys.

Eye injuries hurt like hell.I remember in my younger days I was levering some fork gaiters on to my BSA Thunderbolt. Screwdriver slipped and went through my eyelid into my eye. For some reason I needed a wee....Shock possibly I went for a wee and passed out. I've only got sight in my left eye other one is short sighted I poked my good eye...Went to A & E Fekin doctor was poking around in it and kept telling me not to blink. How can you not blink when someone is poking in your good eye......

Great question.

I was cutting a mortice key on my lancer plus. It was a new union 3 lever key (steel not the cheap ones)

Thanks for all your get well wishes and offers of help, but the moral of my thread is to get you all to upgrade or like me buy some very safe glasses.

At the moment I am in a lot of pain but considering how I am going to earn a living if I only have one eye.
