VanessaB5
There will be a post on our forum shortly. Essentially, accept "Add the file BT.dll to exclusion list" when a box appears on screen in the Avast anti virus software
windycity
well done umarq and thank you, alas I'm now Avastless!! anyone recommend another free anti virus cheers
Michael
You can add Vistool 8 to the exceptions list in Avast and all works fine, alternatively you can use AVG antivirus but I found this can slow your PC down quite a bit.
Simes
Had the same problem and just ran the install again. Didn't take long. First time Avast has ever caused me a problem so won't be changing it, certainly not for AVG! That will really slow a machine down.

jaceys
Hi We have just purchased a Gem CX5 lovely machine but really just starting out on the basics. One thing we have found using a dog tag template espescially 25mm round no tab, it isn't true to the engraving on the screen, the top line hitting the hole on the top of the tag, we have realigned the machine, we know you can move the text but not really wanting to do that everytime we do a tag. Any hints??? Thanks Jane
StevenB
I find that different 25mm tags from different suppliers have holes of varying sizes, and as you've found, the position can also vary slightly. Experience soon allows you to judge where to position the top line of text, without worrying about amending the template or any other overcomplication of the job. jaceys
Thank you very much Steven for your help, we will just move things around as required. Also what are favourite Fonts you all use for Dog tags, Plates etc there are so many to look at I have also used the advice from an earlier post about depth on the Dog Tags, maybe use less on a trophy plate? I will get there eventually Time and patience much needed. Thanks Jane
StevenB
All 'standard' jobs, trophy plates, pet tags etc I use Times engraving. For more interesting jobs I go off piste & use something more creative as required.
Forest Cobbler
I think I clicked on something by mistake! Earlier on I noticed that whenever I tried to select any text by dragging a box round it, if I also touched the template line then the whole template was selected as well. Now, I managed to solve the problem by turning everything off and back on again, but wondered if anyone knew what I might have clicked on to make this happen and, if I should happen to do it again, how to stop it without having to shut the program down. Thanks, Valerie
Gray
That happens. Be careful when you highlight text. Just click on the text. No need to turn everything off and on again. Go to edit, ctrl z should take you back in steps.

Highlight the line in blue so it does not engrave. Then you have a space to work from. I use an old diamond with spindle on for dogs discs. Times. Forest Cobbler
Sorry, still haven't got the hang of how to copy a quote from someone else's message. Argy said:- That happens. Be careful when you highlight text. Just click on the text. No need to turn everything off and on again. Go to edit, ctrl z should take you back in steps. Ctrl z would take only me back to the beginning of that particular job, I believe. The problem I was having was being carried over from one job to another. So if I wanted to resize the text on a dog tag, if my dragged 'select' box got even close to the template line that would be selected too. Even the blue circle on the disc text of a previous job would be selected if I got too close, similarly with the box I had put round the text for a bench plate. I know that I could click on each line of text individually, and many times that is exactly what I do, but I'd still like to know if anyone can tell me what setting I had clicked on by mistake to make this happen in the first place. Thanks, Valerie

Michael
After the recent problems with the Avast Antivirus I updated to Vistool 8.8 build 1534 and all has been fine until I've twice now tried to use the depth profile function. When I try to engrave with a depth profile, the cutter/diamond goes to the first point, touches the item I'm engraving, then retracts to the finishing point! Anyone else had this since updating, or if you've updated recently could you try setting up something using the depth profile and see if it does the same? Thanks in advance. Simes
Has anyone ever tried diamond engraving a gold Prosecco bottle? Worried the gold may flake. Any tips?
StevenB
Never tried it. Make sure whatever you charge is enough to cover the cost of a replacement bottle, plus a bit for profit...
Lee
you might be better asking this under the general engraving section. Its more likely to be something a Gravograph user has handled.
