k4mrc
my staff and i are having an argument on which is best! they reckon a clean and tidy shop does not sell as much as a 'slightly dusty' one. clinically clean does not work in there eyes. tough one i can see both sides - what do you guys think? Gray
Dusty stock and shelves show non moving stock, therefore reduce customer confidence. Clean and tidy for me. Sack the lazy sods Martin they just don't want to clean up.

The customer side of the counter especialy the gifts should be neat clean and tidy. and a messy bench or work shop is a busy one. my vans are tidy everything in its place as it needs to be when out on the road but the shop i base myself in has probabaly the messiest work bench in the back shop full of locks that should be in the bin old pins on the floor and generaly messy but i know where everything is and i am very busy and the mess dont hinder me. craig

Forest Cobbler
There is a whole world of difference between 'slightly dusty' and 'shit hole'. We have one part time lad who cleans as though his life depends on it, but a light coating of dust is always back by the following day. Clean and tidy is nice, but I'd take busy over clean any day. ironplanet uk900
I don't see the argument, no customer is interested in a dirty shop.. in todays multi service centres, then it has to be clean... flee pits are for flees..
k4mrc
i try to keep the 'customer area' very clean, but those of you who have seen my shop will realise - it's only 6 x 12 feet including cabinets! so this is usually cleaned daily! but - customers call at my counter and look over to a busy beehive with work every where - this is the area that we struggle to keep clean - once upon a time a 'supervisor' from mr T's called in and stated it should be cleaner as at mr T's he would be 'sacked! I replied (being on my own in them days) "either sweep the floor or try to keep up with the work" I know which I did and would keep doing! I like to keep the work ready for when customers call in to collect! now every night or morning 1st job the floor gets cleaned - dust customers area etc; these days my staff gets kicked up arse - we try to keep a clean shop - but, when were so busy serving working running around, and we do run! the place can quickly become 'messy' but 'clinically clean' is really for those 'posh shops' jewellers - me + the staff still row over cleaning!! ironplanet uk900
We are big on gifts, so clinically clean shop is a must, but agree it's hard to keep the workshop 100% but we try hard to..
keithm
Maybe people should consider HOW the shop has become dirty/untidy? Keep your machines up to standard, no pun intended, in a healthy state and make sure you work in a tidy and organised manner, this will make a big difference to the appearance of your premisis, no matter the size Dust will always be an issue, but it can be managed and improved I could go on and on about dust, but I shant, so there's a relief for you all I'll save it for the Exhibition Keith
