keithm
Well done Caroline!! Some good points in there, but I would like to add the following. European shoe repairers are generally held in very high regard as specialists. Therefore, they tend to specialise in items such as laces and shoe cleaning products because they have more time to educate the customer. In the UK, we still have many heel bar type operations offering quick repairs, keys, etc. The emphasis tends to be on speed more than service. This is not to say that any member on this Forum does not consider serving the customer an important part of their service, but Europe is different
Lee
Good reply but i feel that you may be missing the point Caroline, Read the posts again!! we are all excited, what other product has sparked this much interest in the last 2 years of the forum? I WANT THIS SYSTEM! I have just contacted Peter Cooper from PBN Associates to see if he can supply us. Lee

Lee
Every now and then something comes along and you think "I've got to have one of those" this is a case of it! For the type of shop I am, where offering something a little different gives the customer a reason to drive to you a bespoke shoe lace service would be brilliant. I carry quite a large range of shoe care and have built a reputation for it. However laces have always been a problem with static stock. This system rocks! keithm
I would be surprised if many of you guys could afford or even have the space in your premisis, especially to make a relatively small amount of profit. I'm sure if you dedicated as much space to trophie or key displays, you would make far more profit! Thats not a reason not to do it though, I like the idea, it just depends on your priorities Keith
the dutch cobbler
key displays, you would make far more profit! Where can you get keys? Allmost everywhere! Where can you get laces like this? Nowhere! (Beside my shop offcourse!)\:D/ And do you know what one meter shoelace costs? John

I'm sure if you dedicated as much space to trophie or key displays, you would make far more profit! Thats not a reason not to do it though, I like the idea, it just depends on your priorities Keith The priority keith is the number of customers coming through the front door. More customers = more oportunities to sell your other products. If I was in a position to trade again I would have already have had this system in place and I could guarantee you this, if there were 4 repairers in the area and there was only me stocking off the roll, no-one else would be selling any laces to speak off. The marketing would be right and everyone would know where to get every type and size/colour of lace. The Guy having the best possible shoe care range combined with service can beat all others on this shoe repair service. No matter how good your repairs are, if you cant supply the shoe care they go to a competitor for it, LOST customer!!! I think you would be surprised at just how many can afford it Keith!! Where there's a will there's a way.
Guest Klazykobbler
Had another thought ( i'm allowed one a day according to the doc) but it might work over here cause of health and safety the PC brigade etc. John have you ever thought of inviting a class from a local school to come over and get the kids to have a lesson in making there own laces. they'll go home to Mum and Dad and tell em all about this great place they have been to making laces and before long you'll have even more customers! Klazy
Hugh-Candoit (ENG)
That would have been part of my marketing strategy Klazy, along with Womens Voluntry Sservice, Womens Institutein fact any groups that i could find that meet on a regular basis. I would also do it for shoe dying and cleaning in general, especially removing marks.

the dutch cobbler
Great looking silver line machine you have, did you buy it from arjen jungepeir? Hi Peter, this machine is indeed sold by Arjen Jongepier. Now-a-days Jan Thulen does all the machinery work for me. He was working by Power that time to! This was the first SilverLine in a corner! I´m still very proud of it! John have you ever thought of inviting a class from a local school to come over and get the kids to have a lesson in making there own laces. they'll go home to Mum and Dad and tell em all about this great place they have been to making laces and before long you'll have even more customers! Klazy I have three daughters, they are walking billboards for the shoelaces! I had also a lot of (free) publicity in the newspaper and on the internet! http://www.schoenmaker.com/art_0601.php The idea for inviting a class i'll keep in mind! John I have made around 10 phone calls, and sent quite a few Emails but as yet I have drawn a blank on laces & aglets from the UK. Although I am still waiting on some replies. the dutch cobbler
Hi, In The Netherlands we have enough aglets! How much do you want? 500? 1.000? 5.000? or 10.000? John
keithm
Hugh, when I said afford it I meant space, NOT cost! As I said, it's about what SPACE you can afford and dedicate to it considering the relatively small amount of profit per square metre of shop space !
