this is just what you concider to be possible competition locally, for example I feel I have 2 branches of Timpson in the town centre and Anglia lock smiths cut keys & we have a well established engravers called John Easters so I would say 4. I am a distance away from the next local towns so they don't affect me.

Ahhh

so is this survey being sponsored by Timpsons? :x

I thought of this question during the week. its hard to think of something new each month! but if any member wants to send me some ideas I will happily consider them. There is no charge to send me your ideas for a poll

I was actually looking back to when I started the shop and remembered there was seven shoe repairers, one lock smiths & an Engravers meaning way back then I had nine competitors!

you don't have to answer any of the polls if you don't want to it just gives an interesting insight into trends and opinions.

Why would it be sponsored by Timpsons?

it because rumour has it that timpson are opening a lot of shops, where else could they possibly get better inside information?

OK I hold my hands up its a conspiracy! I'm trying to find out all your information and have been selling it onto my good friend James ever since I started the site.

the operative word in your statement sam was 'rumour'. don't believe everything you hear! (especially from uk900)

why would you want to question the integrity of someone who's done more in bringing us all together as a trade than anyone else has for the past 25 years or longer?

To9 samtheman I'm very sorry to say this but you are so far off track thatyou are in danger of getting lost just like this thread.

If you want to know where anyone is opening a new shop just get listed for all the local councils for planning applications.

To everyone else who is afraid of someone else opening a service shop in their locality I would say this, be afraid.

Afraid of yourself, for there is nothing like complacency to drive your customers to a rival.

I have said this many times and I dont like repeats but,

Set your stall out, achieve the best service for your customers, look at your business from the outside as a customer (enlist the help of a customer) highlight all that needs change and change it. Customers do not change service providors unless they are getting inferior service or being ripped off, so the ball is in your court.

Its nearly the end of the month and a clear pattern has emerged with over a 1/3 of us having 5 competitors or over.

I am amazed at this result, it just goes to show what a competitive field we work in!
