marky1
Ex long term employee hers the message to save you linking it I worked for timpson for 23years. Spare a thought for the staff. Most staff are over worked and are discouraged to even take a dinner break. If you are in a one man shop they will put a lot of pressure on you not to close for lunch. The only way you can earn a decent wage would be push push sales which causes staff to over charge that is why shoe repairing is dissappearing because they have priced themselves out of the market.that is why they introduced mobile phone repairs diversification. I was sent on a couple of mobile phone courses and I have to admit I was hopeless at it, but was still being pressurised to do the repairs, which caused me so suffer from stress. As things went pair shaped. they have mystery shoppers that secretly film you and if you don't come up to standards they stop your bonus. They have a timpson tool box which has toothpaste hair brush deodorant etc in so there is no excuse in being untidy. You are told you are not allowed to eat garlic.you are not allowed to grow a beard in work hours.i was speaking to an employee who told me that they will not give him promotion unless he shaves his beard of. They take on lots of trainees give them a few months training and then left to run shops a few days a week. They pay them very little and expect miracles from them.no wonder they don't stay. Different shops have different price lists they say they are not price lists but guides. They never use to be like that. When I first started they were a personal company who cared about the well being of there staff. But things have changed its all about money and maximum profits.there had been times where they were very good to me. Use of timpson holiday homes. Paid for a private doctor for me.so it has not all been bad. They have just grown so fast over the last ten years and lost touch with dealing with staff as people. During my last year I felt if I was slowly being hanged out. To dry. 23years service and the regional manager never even phoned to say good bye let alone the director. However I have moved on and out of the retail trade into the care sector and am really enjoying it. So don't be to hard on the staff most of them are a pretty good bunch just fed up. I would like to apologise to all my customers over the last couple of years as stress built up I became moody and rude and not the person I wanted to be. Tom D
best part of it was the "Timpson tool kit " I remember how that started. mrs Timpson visited a branch & the manager had b,o they sent a letter authorising us to buy a can of deodorant out of petty cash/ ewe used to spend it on 4 cans of lager do feel sorry for that bloke after 23yrs of service. I can only say they were never like that when I was ther but thinking practicaly . were is he going to get the staff from? kobblers
kobblers
Sheesh. Reading some of those complaints - no wonder people don't trust our trade as much as they used to. Timpson should be damn well ashamed of themselves. Rick. Tom D
Tom D
if you read revues of timpsons they make very interesting reading. its not fair too tar them all with the same brush theve got some good uns, but in the last few years the standard of what I get through my door has dropped considerably. 4 prs of cheaneys blake stitched?. many years ago I read in a car magazine (1980s) that ford got the most complaints, the reply was " its coz we sell somany" perhaps this expansion might be more trouble tan its worth? whatever mr james will still make money kobblers
Mike at Vauxhall
When I worked for a chain ( not timpsons) , my day was all about monitoring about a dozen KPI's ( Key performance indicators). No matter what happened senior managment could pull you up at least one kpi. Now I'm a sole trader, I'm always thinking about how I can improve my shop, but sometimes you just have a day (or few ) when it's just slow. But I don't have senior management breathing down my neck demanding an action plan to remedy the situation. Fast Fix Elgin and kobblers
