Arrrgghh. Return position on Gravograph M40G

Recommended Posts

Can anyone suggest how to overcome this particular problem?

When I engrave tankards and trophies in my machine, I always centre the trophy with the handle at 90 degrees so that the bit I want to engrave is facing directly upwards. The machine then does its work but when it is finished the machine seems to want to return to a different position to where it started and if I'm not quick enough to turn the machine off the point drags across the handle damaging the cup or trophy.

The obvious answer is to position the cup so the handle is further round but it does seem daft that the return position should be any different to the start position.

Easy fix.

our way is to engrave by colour -

so once you have put all your text on screen you

1, switch to manual mode,

2, then put a . (dot) underneath

3, select all the font you want to engrave turn it Black

4, make the dot another colour say Blue

(also make sure that the blue is a different tool - this will then stay as a default )

this way after the machine has engraved all the text (in black) it will stop before the colour Blue enabling you to take the job out of the machine, and if you are not by the machine it will stop.

Vistool software lets you set a finish point and a full final retract and in the case of a tankard it will set the handle back where it started. No putting dots, turning stuff blue, adding pauses or having  the orientation going the opposite way .................Just saying.

If you create a 100x100mm job in the software, with the logo or text centred, when the engraving has finished, the machine will move to where the top left of the job would be.

So if you point and shoot the engraving area, the handle should never get in the way.

Disclaimer: i know this is true for flat engraving on an M40, so I assume it's also true for CA work.
