grahamparker
According to a good friend of mine who's a high ranking BT Engineer and a bit of a know it all, Whenever you use a remote control the radio frequency transmitter will burn itself out over a period of time, this is why remotes work from further away the newer they are. Mobile phone and radio masts can also reduce the range, but i assume you are having the same problem no matter where the vehicle is. If this is true then a new key should possibly sort out the problem.

Lee
I'm sure someone with more experience than me will come along soon, but the manual for this car says If the central locking system 3 cannot beoperated with the remote control, this may be due to the following reasons: The remote control has been operated too many times in succession outside the vehicle’s reception range (e.g. at too great a distance from the vehicle). The remote control must be reprogrammed, we recommend your Vauxhall Authorised Repairer. Don't know why it would work from inside but not out, other than maybe the interia light wakes the car up & it has entered this "two many times outside the vehicles range" Even if this is the case I don't know the procedure but for other Vaxhalls its Key in ignition until you get the dash lights, then press the fob buttons. Central Locking should trigger if successful. I'd give it a google to see what you come up with. Owners manual Lee
grahamparker
At the end of the day its really a Renault and the problems that come with them are way to numerous to list. This is one of a number of problems we hear about renault vehicles on a daily basis. I spoke to a local garage who specialise in Renault and he recommended code reading,if no success there then new key,he hasn't come accross this problem before. Interesting, you believe the Vivaro is really a renault? I believe it is the other way round, the Renault is a Vauxhall and so is the Nissan. All made in Luton. Doesnt help with the problem though and cant bash the French for this one.............

Autotechnix
As stated, the Vivaro is a Renault Trafic, the Renault body module (UCH) is mounted to the right of the steering column and is usually the cause of any remote or key issues, I have seen them with coffee and coke spilled over them and we mustn't forget our good friend the over zealous valeter pressure washing the dash! A visual inspection and it will be obvious if that's the problem. With a good diagnostic machine like the Dec2 Superscan, you will see live data in the body module including the remote signal, first course of action though is usually to disconnect the battery and reset the system voltages if there is a fault with the remote control system on most modern cars, drastic but effective. If there is still no joy, a new body module will probably be required at around £250 plus programming at Renault/Vauxhall or with the Dec2 as mentioned previously. A new key is not expensive, but having the same problem with both the existing fobs, it's not very likely to be the problem. http://www.autotechnix.co.uk/Renault-ke ... 469%29.htm Regards Alan
