SHIT

just been told this week that not only do i have to pay PRS for playing my radio in the shop ive got to pay PPL as well and theyve charged me a 50% surcharge on top!

SHIT

Martyn from SOMSR did some digging for me so beware

Im going to pay the licence fee but not the surcharge and get SOMSR to argue my case

the people i spoke to at FSB and trading standards had never heard of the PPL ?

so watch out or you could be on your way to a bill for £200

you might want to make this a sticky Lee

carry on!

well today i paid up!

seems the 2 organisations are working hand in hand to find members from each organisation and penalise them!(they will deny this)

took some advice on this and have decided to pay so with the prs and ppl it has cost me 200 quid this year to listen to the radio ](*,)

carry on

We paid PPL after they called at my shop recently acting as customers who told us they could hear the radio! , then PRS telephoned after 2 months or so, so they are definetly swapping info!

we have up till now told PRS to get on there bike, saying we are paying one - and so far nothing..

but after watching a TV program it is true you have to pay both of them.

i think there is something going on at the moment thru courts that are going to make them 'join up' so all of us will be getting one bill in the future!

so get ready - what ever you are paying will be more!

  • 4 months later...

We had a visit from one of their reps in December 2010 who came in and asked do we have a music licence.

When we said we had a PRS licence (which we had for a while but still have yet to get a radio lol) he smugly told us we needed a PPL licence too.

That was the deciding factor for us not to even think of renewing the PRS or even bringing a radio in to the shop. Last week we had an invoice through, along with another at a 50% reduction for what we have already been playing. Their rep had gave them notes that when he walked into our shop we were listening to music at the time of his visit :^o ... Be careful with these people.. Our dispute with them is proving to be a nightmare.

PPL dispute still going on lol

Contacted FSB, who got a solicitor to phone back. Was told to stick to my guns and not pay but answer all letters etc. from them (that more than PPL does, they never answer emails/letters). Local solicitor has told the same to me - not to pay has they got to prove that I was playing music (PPL say they have not got to prove?)

Also PPL have passed details to 2 debt collection agencies now and both agencies have passed the file back to PPL.

I going to fight this to the end..... Be buggered if I paying for something I don't require.
