Simes
you might be better asking this under the general engraving section. Its more likely to be something a Gravograph user has handled. Do I sense some sarcasm here? lol

Forest Cobbler
A local engineering company brings in a few machine plates from time to time, and I have saved a template of all the boxes that I need to fill in. The problem I am having is that when I change any wording etc., from one plate to the next, all the other wording resizes itself. Is there any way to stop this happening? Thanks, Valerie
StevenB
Yes, set the job up using the text dialogue (keyboard shortcut 'T') rather than autolayout (ALT+A) I had the same problem & after an extended tutorial from Mark I was all sorted! Forest Cobbler
Spot on. Thanks. That'll save me so much time. I was tearing my hair out with frustration. It's amazing isn't it; you have an engraving system for years and still don't know how it all works. Thanks again, Valerie
StevenB
12 years I've been using it & only learnt this a couple of weeks ago! How much time I could have saved over the years, if only I'd known...
gsc
Hi Need a bit of advice. I am engraving a 6 inch Salver, what depth would I use to engrave without the engraving looking to deep, as im doing 1mm and its missing the last and first letter on the longest line of engraving. Doing it deeper looks a bit rough, any help please. thanks jane Salvers tend to distort or you don't clamp them level..I'd make sure you have sprung tension on your diamond, ie. don't lock it solid engrave to a depth of 2mm. Set your retract to 10mm to be safe.

I knew that! ... .... Something we've spoken about in the past Steven, best we could come with was draw a box around the text. Learning all the time even after 15 years.. ... He's a clever fu**er is that Mark person.

jaceys
Hi, sorry to be a nag just getting to grips with our Gem CX 5,Just a query on which way you secure a hipflask, I use the centre vice but the stylus is too near the flask, is there anyway of putting the flask in lower or making the stylus higher. Pics may be helpful if possible how to secure the flask. Many thanks jane
Paul_
Have you looked on U-Marqs website for a tutorial video? Not sure if there is definatly one of engraving a hip flask but there are loads of great things on there. Hope this helps a little.
jaceys
Hi Have looked on U Marq site but cannot see anything there. When we put the flask in, the tip of the diamond seems to close and when engraving it scratches across the flask as theres not enough lift.Any tips? Thanks again Jane
Mike Whale
The Cx should be more than capable of holding a hip flask. When you put the diamond into the cutter shaft how much of the cutter is protruding at the bottom? Try adjusting it so that you can just see cutter tip. StevenB
I would normally clamp a hip flask using these pins https://www.u-marq.com/jigs.html/plastic-coated-jig-pin-set-20-mm-ac-00129 in the standard jigs: https://www.u-marq.com/jigs.html/standard-aluminium-jig-set-ac-00136 As Mike says, if necessary, raise the diamond in the machine so you have as little as necessary protruding. jaceys
Thank you Mike and Steven B, I have the jig and bits so will try the adjusting the stylus tip, didn't realise I could move it up that much. Many thanks again Jane
Paul_
Problem time.....Old Universal running on Vistool 6 (I know time for a change!) Moved the machine yesterday and today we have a problem. When I sent over the first job the cutter just slowly dropped down in a slow "juddery" way. Now when I send a job the cutter doesn't move but the "juddery" noise continues and the only way to stop the noise is to press emergency stop which brings the machine to dead stop. I am in the process of going back over all the cables and sockets and ensuring they are correct, but thought I would ask here too and see whether this is an easy fix......I think not! Any help much appreciated. Paul
Michael
Mine did this a little while ago. IIRC I turned off for a couple of minutes, restarted my laptop and a squirt of GT85 sorted it.
