Simes
Has anyone used the UNI-350 to engrave iPads? I've had my first enquiry but not sure if I can do it successfully!

Craig Gardner
Thanks. I'll play on my own first I think! They diamond drag fine but use a blunt diamond and feather touch but the best finish comes from the laser engraver on these Craig

Craig Gardner
What about iPhone's? Same? I laser all iPhones as the older ones are aluminium they will drag ok but the newer ones are glass and diamond drag won't look great on them Craig

Rizla
Hi Peeps Need some advice here.... Over the (quiet) Xmas period I decided to scrub Vista on my controlling laptop and install Win 7 I only have the CD for XP/Vista and it wont take it (obviously) for my GEM-RX4 ( but probably the RX5 Mobo as it died on me and needed re-furbing) Been to U-Marq site and I cant see where the heck I can download the required drivers ETC. Need to up before the New Year if possible. Scary stuff when they don't work lol

You need to go to the new forum part of the U-Marq site to download drivers etc. It's HERE

Simes
I'm having problems with white infill on a Brass plaque. The problem seems to be in the clean up process. Using thinners to clean up and it dulls the white paint. Presumably the grey residue you get when you polish brass is contaminating the white finish. Any ideas? grahamparker
What thinners are you using, never done white infill but we use Rustins cellulose thinners and it works great on black paint. Could also be the type of paint you are using also.
StevenB
How are you cleaning off the excess paint? There are some good tutorials HERE

Engrave deep into the brass if using 1.5mm brass engrave to .50 then infill with white paint in a syringe with needle end slowly into each letter so infill stays in engraved area will dry great in About 24 hours and no need to clean White will have a pure White Finnish all other methods I've tried leave pastel colours and white dirty Hope that makes sense Craig
Simes
Thanks all. Craig I'll give that a go. It's quite small text, and I'll need a steady hand but worth a try.
Simes
ok tried with needles but the lettering is too small to use that method. Letters are approx 4.8mm. It definitely seems that the effect of rubbing the brass with thinners picks up the grey/black tarnish from the brass and deposits it on the white infill turning it a dirty grey. Not a problem with black infill but hopeless with white. Desperate to find a solution as I don't want to go back to the customer having failed. Have tried covering in vinyl, engraving and then spraying. Waiting for the paint to dry but don't hold out much hope for a good result.

Have you tried white wax instead of paint that might work I used red wax once a few years ago Craig
Simes
Tried wax but that was not too great either. However in the end I used a dry wipe used to clean computer screens! I dampened with Tek No 1 Thinners and drew it across the brass in the direction of the grain until clean. I then polished the plate with Brasso and finally cleaned up the lettering by using Pledge polish.
