Guest Lock&keycentre
Hi All Bit of a weird one this, not sure where to post so here goes! I want to start mobile Keycutting and need a petrol/diesel generator but don't know how much power it will have to be, i'm looking at an 850w one, does anyone know if that would be sufficient to power a cylinder and mortice machine? Thanks in advance Big John

Thanks in advance Big John yes that would be fine but smelly in the van and uses fuel that costs money if only cutting a few keys at a time get a 12v to 240v invertor and wire up to your van battery and plug machines into that. if doing a lot of keys or using for long periods of time get a large leisure battery fitted in the back of your van wire inverter into that and have it connected to the van battery on a split charging system so it always charges when you drive thats what we use in our vans
Guest Lock&keycentre
Thanks! it's only for cutting keys at bootfairs and things like that so would be better to have a generator don't really need it on the Van full time, but thanks for the advice, much appreciated. Auto Key Wizard
I'm mobile & use a Ring 1100W 12V Power Inverter this is a modified sine wave, but it powers my Silca Viper from a Exide Maxxima 900 DC Deep Cycle Battery which is split-charged by my vans starter battery

Guest Lock&keycentre
Alright Fellas Calm down! I too up until last year had 2 shops for over 10 years!!! so please don't think i've just started key cutting, and i'm a professional locksmith NOT a shoe repairer, u know i'm the sort of bloke that can look at a key and tell you the cuts without using decoders! and make a key to a lock with nothing but a file, so this is what we do best! i'm mobile only now so wan't to cut keys mobile.. So please don't get offended that i want to cut keys at boot fairs... Have a nice day PS, After being in the game for so long no one has ever given me the answer to this question so if anyone can help i would appreciate it. How did Shoe repairing and Key cutting become linked? answers on a postcard please
Mark Davis
Key cutting machines use very little power, average cylinder machine is about 160watts, you can get a generator from Macro for about £100 which will easily do you job.
