apsrbstar
Hi all, I'm new here, and just looking for a little help. We're an electrical wholesaler in the South East, and we offer engraving on wiring accessories (switches and sockets etc) and 2 ply plastic labels. I use GravoStyle 98 on an old XP machine. I've been having problems lately with engraving multiple depths on the 2 ply labels. What I would usually do is engrave lettering and images at one depth (say 0.2mm) and then edges and drill holes much deeper (maybe 1.3mm). Recently, it doesn't matter what I set on the Maching screen on GravoStyle, the blade does not seem to be pushing through, I just get the depath I set on the depth nose. Bescuase I often do numerous labels on a single sheet, I would normally set and leave this process to gett on with other tasks, but I am having to return to the engraving machine frequently, and I'm finding this method very hit and miss. Does anyone know if there are any settings in GravoStyle or adjustments on the machine which may have inadvertantly been set/turned off?
ironplanet uk900
have you always used a nose cone ? have you adjusted the pressure on your heads elevation ? Is your cutter sharp enough ? have you adjusted the hight of your engraving bed, not leaving enough range in the elevation. I would have thought it was something you have done rather than a machine fault.
hibsjo(SCO)
sometimes the brass screw(the one at the top which has the grub screw in it ) which holds the cutter in place twists out on itself and needs tightening up(fully) carry on! apsrbstar
I actually tried that yesterday, but to no avail It may be relevant that as I lower the cutter into the machine, it catches part-way down. I didn't noticve that until recently.
ANDY
Sounds like your pressure is on the light side if it's snagging. I'd clean your spindle too

grahamparker
Did you return you cutters to gravograph for sharpening ??? I sent some twin cut cutters back to them for regrinding and they all came back worse than before, i then sent them to pantograph services in leeds, cheaper quicker and a damn site sharper in fact nearly as good as a new cutter. Don't use anybody but them for sharpening my cutters now.
ironplanet uk900
Definately blunt cutters, I fail to see how anyone can operate without a cutter grinder.
