windycity
may be you should remember that old saying don't put all your eggs in one basket. i must be very lucky as i never seem to have major any stock problems, when there has been any issues they have all been sorted with a phone call. but i do use 3 wholesalers. Guest lee.
I remember Abbeytops , they were not that Good !!! Not having a Nasty dig at our Supplier , they offer the widest Range of items in the marketplace , have some of the keenest prices, and a quick delivery time . Problem seems to be that as the Product Range and Customer Base has increased , stock levels are hard to maintain due to circumstances beyond ther control and things start to get a bit more difficullt to monitor . Good Computer System is a must have , but if items are picked wrong stock levels automatically adjusted when invoices raised are meaningless. If it a case of trying to pick and pack orders too quickly , meaning simple errors are made , i for one would be happy to wait an extra day for the order to arrive correctly , and packed in a transportable condition. This would save a lot of extra work at both ends and make life much easier for everyone in the long Run . On the whole they do a fantastic job , just a shame when someone lets the side down
Perplexus
Every week we get at least one - usually several - things showing as 'back order'. Never once has a back order item ever turned up. They may as well re-label the Back Order column to 'We ain't got it and we're not bovvered'! toofatbyfar
They may as well re-label the Back Order column to 'We ain't got it and we're not bovvered'! personally i too am fed up with placing orders, not getting lots of it, then getting an invoice not tallying with the wrong delivery note, putting aside damaged and wrongly sent stuff, knowing that it will take up to 3 months to get credit note.. .. i do dread getting these ordes, so time consuming, check, check and double check, cuz i know it wont be correct .i also remember abbey tops, where you placed an order, got and paid for what you ordered,,same as tom from overstone leather,,i dont even have to check his invoice,,has anyone ever recieved a 5 litre tin of glue that hasnt been,(what looks to me like) someone has played australian rules football with. Chris Wilson
Thank you for inviting me to reply to this topic which is obviously directly about our company. It is always important to listen to feedback and action whatever changes are required, and certainly the order that triggered this debate was a severe embarassment. However on investigation I have found that David Macdonald, the Leeds General Manager, had spoken to the customer and sorted out the problems and had dealt severely with the staff concerned. The elastic in question I have sourced from Italy and the supplier sent all sizes and colours except 20mm black and 25mm brown (this became apparent after Birch Deals went to print) we have good stocks of the rest. However with any new launch it is difficult to anticipate what the demand will be. All I can do is assure you that we do care, that we do do our best to ensure that everything is on the shelves all the time. Occasionally we drop a ball and under order, occasionally manufacturers let us down but we are always looking to improve stock availability. On the packing issue we have invested in recycled packaging machines for Leeds and Essex which is the green way to pack out boxes. Since this investment we have had far fewer complaints even though we are now sending out a lot of glass and crystal tableware & trophies. Clearly the bagging of Leather Dye etc is working as proven by this order. We cannot reasonably be expected to tighten the lids on every bottle we send out (we would have to double our staff) however I shall again raise this matter with Punch. Rest assured that we have listened to all the points raised, there is no complacency at Charles Birch, and we shall endeavour to continually improve standards in every area of the business Chris Wilson
Guest Iain Cheall
Puts in tongue in cheek.... Can I have the order I made with you Chris at the Cutting edge show at Rotherham about 3 or 4 years ago On the whole I haven't got much to complain about with Birches apart from the continued insistance to put trade prices in Catalogues we are supposed to show Customers. Mind I do get the occasional gift item squashed into a box with something else

gav
Lee,,, out of interest do your orders come from Leeds or Essex?,,we find we get more problems from the essex depot
Lee
Mine come from Essex, I hardly ever have problems! sure items are out of stock sometimes, but usually I get them on the next order. I don't get much damaged in transit, perhaps the roads this way are smoother! Lee

Dean
95% of the stock we order arrives and I appreciate that stock shortages are sometimes beyond suppliers control. However, it's instances like when half a dozen rough bands, 10 pairs of topy supertops, etc are thrown in the same box as my zippo lighters and gifts that I get annoyed. should be common sense on the parts of the staff in the warehouse IMO.
