kobblers
are these available yet? they're not in my DB book anymore so i don't know if they're available at all. i have a customer with a caravan key that has one of these locks on it and she needs a spare rather urgently. what sort of moron would put a lock like that on a cheap caravan anyway if they're not generally available as yet, how does my customer get one? she doesn't want to hand in her only key to be sent off. rick. Auto Key Wizard
Union Copyright 1989 keys are still available, but it's a long winded process obtaining cut keys by suite number. If customer isn't fussed, the cylinder could be swapped out for a cylinder with a regular profile
kobblers
thanks tel. i've never seen a caravan lock, can they be ordered anywhere and are they easy to swap over? cheers, rick.
Auto Key Wizard
I would think the existing one will be either a Rim Cylinder or a Euro Cylinder
hibsjo(SCO)
The caravan makers supply security rated key systems because caravans are one of thee most repossesed items in the leisure industry.Someone somwhere has a spare key to your static caravan, especially if its on HP, change barrels is the way to go
Mick Friend
I agree the only reason for the restricted key would be that the unit was configured for hire thus a master is kicking about someplace -its probably a rim nightlatch and either a straight Yale 1109 or a secure cylinder can be fitted -probably cost less that cutting several security keys. Does the key have a blank Number on it?
keithm
I would also think that the site are using the key restriction in a way to limit the number of keys being cut for it's vans. As, in, you can't get them cut down the road so it'll put people of trying Keith
kobblers
this caravan isn't on a site, the customer actually owns it and keeps it on her driveway otherwise she'd probably understand better the need for such security. i've sent her a text explaining the situation anyway and asked her to call for a chat if she wants to change the lock. as always, thanks for your help and input fellas. rick. Guest Phill
George Perrins at Union Master key dep. on 01902 364100 is the man to speak to. He'll either send you a cut key or let you know who can You'll probably need a letter of authorisation from the relevant party

Mick Friend
Thanks I spent best part of my life training people in the Fire Brigade and as a Locksmith - I always found that laughing was a better way for people to remember - I tried never to insult but with some pr**s it was impossible. I have always found that most so called minorities do not mind a bit of mickey taking and having lived in Slough my shop neighbours made me an honoury asian. So I never felt that I was indeed none PC. Just having a go at myself.. init - Its so hot here today I think I may just have to break my rules and go in the pool before my Birthday.....
