oldmanhouse
Hi all, I'm hoping for some advice on whether some boots of mine are repairable. A local cobbler says no, but didn't elaborate on why so would appreciate any input you could provide. The leather upper has come away from where it joins to the sole, the leather itself is ripping too. If it is repairable, I'd appreciate any recommendations on reputable postal services as I've got limited places locally, although I am in London quite often so could drop off there if central. Many thanks!
St.Am92
A simple patching job, though that doesn't look like leather to me
Locks and Cobblers
Yes simple to patch but the rest of the upper looks like it’s splitting so probably not cost effective

The shoes cost £75, and the fabric is also worn inside so perhaps you are right, restoring them may be as much as or more than buying new.

Exactly the reason the shoe repair trade is dying a death. If they came into my shop I would repair for a tenner. St.Am92 and chrisorros
mathews
If a customer came in and wanted those repairing I'd offer to repair them too. It's just much easier on the forum to say the truth which is those boots are basically made out of extra thick black bin liners, your feet will become as sweaty as possible as they will not breath even one bit. Like all here I know a half decent shoe when I see one and at £75 those were a complete and total rip off to begin with IMO. damen.rudi
In the past, before the lockdown here in Belgium, I got a lot of these repairs. People think that when they buy a pair of shoes of €70, it will surely be leather. They find this expensive. East asian crap with no piece of leather in it. Upper plastic, bottom plastic. The same problem with the handbags and purses. LiuJo, Steve Madden, Michael Cors, Boss, .... famous designers but that's all. All made in the far east with inferior materials at a very low cost.. A customer told me that she didn't know that we were so expensive. Made my result at the end of the week with a week of all of these "restaurations" and find out that I got a hour work at €12. Where will this end??
Silvaro
A red flag is "PU" for the outside/inside or "TPU" on the sole. They first spray some volume-giving substance (grey) on a fabric gaze, then on top of that polyurethane. One can use his thumb to rub it off, after which the thumb has black smurr on it. They barely manage getting out the box cosmetical okay, let alone have a chance to wear / be used. From what I've seen, they're bought by palette from China at a mere or a few euro / pair, here price tagged as 50 euro then sold as thus bogus price reduction at 20 euro. Bristol (former Shoe Post / Shoe Discount) is a typical seller.
