how many of us have heard this customer "do you have watch batteries " very patient shop keeper " yes we do, have you got the watch" customer " no i hav'nt" still very patient shop keeper " do you have the number of the battery then" customer " no but i know what it looks like can i see a few" shop keeper has now lost it

get it quite often, last guy i told him that without the watch or code there was nothing more i was willing to do, he wasnt happy, but they would only have picked a battery and then brought it back claiming it doesnt fit

so sell them the battery on the basis if its not taken out of the packet you will refund the money

we get them every day and they then come back with the watch/battery or code

simple

its all about taking money from them on your terms

Customers are surprised that there are more than 2 sizes, we stock 40-50 but they (normally men) still insist they can guess the size, agree with swapping if undamaged packaging.

Hibs is a good answer... We normally tell them there are too many to guess, and it would be better to bring in the watch to make sure the battery hatch doesn't get damaged by trying to fit the wrong sized battery.
