StevenB
Simple question, but what's the general opinion out there? The recommendation of the Silca Bravo Professional was spot on for my new cylinder machine last year. This year I'm thinking of another update, but want to see what others think first. Thanks. grahamparker
Blade vectis by a mile (made by fotheringhams on the isle of white) unfortunately no longer made. Lancer plus is a good robust machine and cuts extremly accurately if a little slowly at first untill you get used to it.
Gray
Jakey Mk 2......................................If It's doing the job Steve and It's not worn out why change it?........I've had mine for years.............OK the gearbox leaks a little bit and I've had to fit a new switch "From Maplins" in a nice blue shade which doesn't light up because I couldn't figure out the wiring and tripped out the fuse box a couple of times...............But it's still going strong. slippy
I'm on a Jakey MK2 aswell at least 20yrs old. Perfect for making keys from broken/bent pins and key to lock. Couple of new thumb turns and thats about it.
Lee
fotheringhams machine is a gem. Of everything I own in the shop this is my all time favorite machine to use. Davenports supplied mine & there's still a spares line through Mr Fotheringhams daughter so they may still be able to supply the machines? Thanks. ihave jakey mk2 and lancer plus but am probabaly going to get the idea for mortice but you cant go far wrong with a lancer plus although silcas quality controll has went down in the last few years. i bought a brand new lancer plus 6 months ago its gearbox was dry no greasein it and it took silca 3 months to suppy a replacement machine under warranty craig

Lee I have 3 of them now Lee, 2 in the shop and 1 upstairs for spares, they must have cut well over 1 million keys between them.
Mike Whale
My personal Favourite is the fore-mentioned Dart! We have one in our workshop and i use it everyday. A bit like a classic hand built car, no 2 are identical! They do need to be re-set quite often dependant on how many keys you cut, but there are brilliant IMO! Unfortunately these are no longer avaiable. You may be able to pick a used one up, but why anyone would part with one i don't know!! I would say the only machine that comes close is the MK2. k4mrc
Silca Lancer, Fantastic and easy to use even if you have someone with little experience working for you.
